Horror Short Review: Finding Yourself (2025)

After a botched meet-the-parents dinner, the debrief discussion with his girlfriend turns hostile, so he leaves her to cool down and he leaves to find himself. He literally finds it, and that part of his self wants to run the show now.

Directed by Abdulla Al Mahmood, and starring Majd Al Aradi and Lujain Yaqoob, Finding Yourself is a horror/thriller short that deals with psychological issues and how they can manifest. In this case, the manifestation is literal, and almost comedic.

It’s interesting, because we’ve all had those moments where we need to walk away, cool off, and think about things. So, the scenario is very realistic, except rarely does this turn into something more ‘cosmic’ for most of us. Unfortunately, that’s what Majd must contend with.

It’s a solid short with good acting and a hearty attempt to tell a contained story with grander implications in very little time. It’s clear there wasn’t much of a budget, but it’s also clear that everyone involved worked hard to make every penny count. It pays off, as it is an interesting watch.
