EP Review: Catalysis – The Only Way Out is Through (Self Released)

Metallers Catalysis are back, having gone through some significant line-up changes, and now look to the future with their brand-new EP, ‘The Only Way Out is Through’. Out on April 18th, 2025.

A new look Catalysis with the same heavy intensity that combines elements of thrash, death, and groove metal. This new EP is a strong statement. Catalysis have been through the wars, and come out the other side, stronger and more refined, looking to cement their legacy and build for the future.

How do they do this? By bringing us a five-track EP that compels you to bang your head until it feels like your brain is about to explode. Fast and furious, but with a sharpness, the power is there from the start with The Prime Meridian. Then along comes Lazarus to deliver crashing, smashing, crushing, and devastating noise, except we also get a soaring chorus here that shows more layers to Catalysis’ modern sound. Both are absolute bangers in different ways.

The middle point of the EP, Burning Bridges, again showcases the way in which Catalysis take their influences and proudly use that to inspire and create their own sound. Familiar, especially when we get a melodically charged heavy effort like this, but gripping none the less.

Though, if you just want Catalysis to let loose, they’re more than capable of doing that too and False Gods takes us on a manic, heart-pounding journey.

Finally, it’s the title track and the sound of Catalysis putting the emphatic stamp on their return with a reckless, animated, and groove-infused heavy effort. How’s the neck feeling? Don’t be surprised if you’ve got some serious aches and pains. Welcome back Catalysis, we’ve missed you.
