Weekly Review Roundup: Monday 22nd September 2025 – Friday 26th September 2025
From exciting modern melodeath and groove metal, to intense progressive death metal, and anthemic alternative rock, to snarling deathcore, and relentless sludge. We’ve reviewed some great releases this week, and here’s our weekly reminder of what has been covered.
Orbit Culture – Death Above Life (Century Media)

Instead of simply repeating the formula from Descent, this album moves forward with greater cinematic scope and deeper emotional resonance. For fans of modern melodic death and groove metal, Death Above Life isn’t just a solid listen — it’s a standout release that confirms Orbit Culture’s place as one of the most exciting bands in the genre right now.

Last Hyena – Suspect Your Elders (Self Released)

A band capable of creating deep immersion with a single track, let alone four, Last Hyena return with several impressive efforts that take the listener on a deep and rewarding journey. A powerful journey with intense quirks throughout, expertly meshing different genres together to create something wholly unique to them.

Beyond Extinction – Where They Gather (Self Released)

It’s not a happy listen, it’s not a feel-good experience, it’s destructive and dystopian, relentlessly heavy and harsh, but goodness, does it kick all kinds of ass.

Delilah Bon – Princeless Princess (Self Released)

Delilah Bon, changing the game with every release, whether you like it or not. The boundary pushing artist is back and back with another set of anthemic, but piercing efforts that display all that we love about her but also display forward momentum and experimentation.

Dying Wish – Flesh Stays Together (SharpTone Records)

On the one hand, this new album is memorable for all the experimentation that Dying Wish have going on. Showcasing an evolved sound that feels natural and proves that with each release, they just get better and better. On the other hand, it’s memorable for how damn heavy it is. An unexpected, but welcome twist to their unmatched formula, especially as it hasn’t resulted in dropped melodies, singing, harmonies, etc.
The best thing Dying Wish have released? Maybe, but even if that’s debatable, the progression of the record isn’t.

Face Yourself – Fury (Sumerian Records)

Face Yourself are back with a raging, spitting, snarling, and intense new EP. It’s Fury, and it’s one hell of an apt title.

Voidlurker – Loathe For Life (APF Records)

The Brummie trio are an uncomplicated bunch, and Loathe for Life doesn’t upend the formula, but f**k it, does it slay. Slowly and with teeth-crunching force.
