Single Slam: Red Method, Heriot, Frozen Soul and Malevolence!

Today’s single slam features Red Method, Heriot, Frozen Soul and Malevolence. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Red Method – Becoming the Sickness

London metal force Red Method have shared their brand-new single, ‘Becoming the Sickness’, alongside a brand-new music video. Thematically connected to 2024 single ‘All for One, None for All’, the new track is the band’s first taste of new material in over a year.

Speaking on the new single, the band shares:

This song serves as an account of our own personal experiences dealing with issues that took us to the very edge. Anyone can feel that they are in a hole so deep that they’ve forgotten what it’s like to be on the surface and breathe again.

Sometimes the pain is so raw and real that we hide in our own shadow, fearing what people would think if they saw the real us. Between the feelings of crippling anxiety and depression it’s easy to feel like there is no way out. We have become the sickness.

Welcome back Red Method, we’ve missed you. Kick starting their year in a big way, this new single cleverly combines the old and the new. Red Method have evolved, but they’ve not lost their core heavy intensity, melodic passion, and ability to groove while kicking ass. They’ve always been a band that poured so much of themselves into how they sound and look, and what they’re offering here is very exciting. It’s so damn potent, and the video slays too.

Heriot – Master of Deceit

Heriot have unveiled a new single, ‘Master of Deceit’, alongside a deluxe version of their globally acclaimed debut album, ‘Devoured by the Mouth of Hell’.

Heriot comment:

‘Master of Deceit’ is centred around the idea of the human experience being diminished through pressures of conformity and fear. It touches on how individualism is being lessened as we’re being pushed to disregard our own experiences, emotions and beliefs. The song poses the question of ‘how far are we willing to go before there’s no turning back?’

Unstoppable, and doing it without compromising their sound, Heriot’s march forward continues with such momentum as they deliver a hostile, intense, and head banging inducing effort that has some 90’s throwback elements. The tempo switch, squeezed harmonics, and two-step twists make it so special. Check it out here.

Frozen Soul – Absolute Zero

Revered death metal / hardcore forerunners Frozen Soul have unleashed 53-second new track called ‘Absolute Zero’.

Speaking about the single, frontman Chad Green states:

More relevant than the day written – with all of the chaos happening in our country, with ICE killing and ripping apart families, ‘Absolute Zero’ comes as our stance against authoritarianism and the monsters that are enforcing it.

I went and got the biggest sledgehammer I could find, and Sam [bassist] carved ‘icebreaker’ into it. We wrote a little message to the world on it—then I froze a skull I painted in my freezer, put it on a cinder block, and obliterated it. The best ice is crushed ice.

Brutal, furious, and downright ugly, this is Frozen Soul at their most stomach-churning and for less than a minute they assault the mind, body, and soul. It’s the kind of track that will result in busted noses and broken teeth in the pit. Check it out here.

Malevolence – Silhouette

Malevolence have surprised fans with the release of a new single called ‘Silhouette’. This marks the beginning of a brand-new chapter for the band, who will now be releasing their music completely independently via their own MLVLTD MUSIC imprint.

Speaking on the new single, the band comments:

Surprise! This one is for the lovers. Go listen to our brand new single on all streaming services this Valentines weekend, released independently on our very own label MLVLTD MUSIC.

We have of course been known to flirt with the ballads in the past but this one feels like a real step outside our comfort zone of the aggressive mosh parts and breakdowns that people have come to expect. It’s nice to get vulnerable for once, flex our songwriting muscles and show the world that we have much more to offer as musicians than what might meet the eye.

You’d have to have been living under a rock to have not noticed Malevolence’s sound has been evolving as they have embraced new styles and a big ballad like this is certainly going to surprise those used to more ‘aggressive’ efforts. However, this isn’t a shift that feels out of place, especially as it is filled with familiar passion, and it has a heavy epic edge. It’s the kind of track that has the potential to capture the imagination of a more mainstream audience and that’s only going to increase their star power.
