MØL – Young

Danish alt-metal visionaries MØL return with ‘Young’, the second single from their eagerly awaited new album ‘Dreamcrush’, due on 30th January 2026 via Nuclear Blast Records.

Guitarist Nicolai Busse comments on the new single:

’Young’ is a song that has travelled through time. The chorus is one of the first pieces of music that I wrote for MØL back in 2012 at a time when I was living outside Denmark. I have returned to it a number of times throughout the years, but I was never able to make it right. So it was only when revisiting it for this record that it finally clicked in my head and I was able to write the rest of the music. The song for me represents a time in my life second guessing myself, trying to stand on my own.

How the bloody hell do they top Garland? By being bloody MØL and changing things up, delivering an early explosion of blackened heaviness and intensity, before effortlessly evolving the track with extravagant melodies, gaze-infused power, and brash metal ferocity. It’s impressively infectious, filled with feeling, and another showcase of the evolved state of this band. Two tracks in and it seems assured that we’re looking at an album of the year contender with Dreamcrush.

Shields – Parasites

Acclaimed British metalcore band Shields have released their new single ‘Parasites’. The song is taken from their upcoming studio album Death & Connection, to be released on 30th January 2026 via Long Branch Records.

Comments Shields singer Joe Edwards:

‘Parasites’ is about the experience of sinking into depression and the warped internal relationship that develops within that state. Originally a rock song from a previous project, ‘Parasites’ was repurposed for our album. As the original track already had dark undertones, it was easy to reframe it in moody industrial arrangements, allowing for a wide range of dynamic shifts between sections.

The wait is almost over, and the mighty Shields continue to create a ton of anticipation with strong single release after strong single release, and that is exactly what we get here. A dynamic display of modern rock and metal, catchy and exciting, but with a dark industrial vein running through it. It’s a little different to other Shields tracks, but that’s no bad thing. Check it out here.

Uncultivates – Flatley

Uncultivates new album, ‘This Will Become Clear Later, Like the French Revolution’, is set to be released on February 6th via HORSEBOX Records. The lead single, ‘Flatley’, is out now alongside a video.

Says Uncultivates about ‘Flatley’:

This little ditty is about getting old and your body not doing what it used to. It’s about how in 1998, Tap dancing legend Michael Flatley broke the record for most taps in a second with an incredible 35 taps. What people don’t know is that in dancing at that speed, ol’ twinkletoes opened up a hole in space and time where he saw a version of himself in another dimension. In this alternate reality he was the world’s most skilled kickboxer and was loved and respected by all. Every day since, he has tried to dance that fast again in the tenuous hope that he can come face to face with his alter ego and defeat him in the ultimate tap dancing kickboxing bloodbath.

This is pretty darn rootin’, tootin’ cool! A punchy post-hardcore tribute to an Irish legend… sort of. Uncultivates are having fun, but don’t let that fool you into thinking they’re not taking the music seriously. Everything in this track has potency, it just so happens to be a little shapeless in places, giving it a chaotic feel. I dig it.

Superdose Gangway – No Reason at All

Adelaide pop punk/emo band Superdose Gangway have shared their nostalgic new single, ‘No Reason at All’, and prepare to launch it live at OC Sound Fest, a celebration of the South Australian punk scene, on the 24th January.

For fans of Blink 182 and Hot Mulligan, ‘No Reason At All’ is about a generation disillusioned by the reality of the world today, produced by Lachy Pitcher (TOWNS, Sleep Talk, Colourblind). Tackling themes of existential doubt, the track explores the weight of living in a world where leaders fail to inspire hope.

Says frontman Max Tulysewski:

I believe that action is the best response to the current state of the world. But sometimes all I can muster is despair. This song has been a work in progress since the pandemic, and I think it reflects some common themes of the last five years. My hope is that this song encourages people to be kinder to themselves and those around them.

Pop punk with a touch of drama, an injection of reality, and plenty of honest catchiness. Credit to Superdose Gangway for finding inspiration in the darkest of times and using that to try and put a smile on other’s faces. It’s pop punk with a bit of bite. Check it out here.

The Radio Addicts – Before My Eyes

Rising teenage indie rock sensations, The Radio Addicts are back with their electrifying new single, ‘Before My Eyes’. This follows the success of their debut single, ‘Scroll My Life Away’, and the complete sell out of their debut Vinyl EP, ‘MMXXV’. It is out on November 28th, 2025.

A bouncy and fun blast of indie rock with catchy rhythms, body-shaking groove, poppy vocals that have a punky twang, and a chorus that everyone will enjoy. There’s not a lot to say here, but rest assured, it sticks in the mind. Check it out here upon release.

divedown – I Want to See It All

Melbourne alternative rock outfit divedown share their energetic new single ‘I Want to See It All’, out via Ninth Life Records. Their third release of the year, the track is a shift into brighter, pop-punk territory – for fans of The Story So Far. It captures the restlessness and yearning that comes with feeling stuck in one place.

Vocalist Sam Bianco explains:

Just like the previous songs, subtlety isn’t our strong suit and the lyrics kind of spell it out. It’s about feeling empty, lonely, and wanting to go out and experience the world but feeling like I’m not able to.

A foot-tapping, finger-rapping, and head-banging blast of excitable alternative rock made all the more potent by a thick vein of catchiness running through it. It has got a whiff of nostalgia about it, something that comes from the pop-punk twist, and will get stuck in the head for ages afterwards. Check it out here.

Attic Theory – Savour the Moment

Liverpool alt groove rock band Attic Theory have released their new single, ‘Savour the Moment’, via ThunderGun Records. The release marks an exciting new chapter for the band, coinciding with their much-anticipated performance at Planet RockStock, where they’ll share the stage with Kris Barras’ Hollow Souls and headliners Ugly Kid Joe.

Moody, groovy, and grungy, albeit with an alternative twist, this new Attic Theory track comes with a ton of vitality. The kind that makes the body shake all over. The riffs are thick and the vocals are smooth, giving us something really listenable.

New Miserable Experience – Ordinary People

New Miserable Experience, featuring an all-star cast with members of Rivers of Nihil, Rosetta, ex-Revocation, Model Prisoner and Rivers of Nihil, have announced their new album ‘Gild the Lily’. is due 23rd January via Pelagic Records.

The band state:

It is a song that is a reaction to rich and powerful men trying to convince us that they are ordinary people and that empathy is a toxic trait.

Man, I am really digging this band. I really like Payback from God, and I really like this too. The melodies, the synthy tones, the smooth vocals, the airy chorus, and how it gets more mournful as it goes on. I’m already excited to hear what comes next, but as of right now, I am fully on board the New Miserable Experience train. Check it out here.

Sugar Horse – What’s Your ETA? Let’s Have a Tear Up / Would You Like Me to Be the Cat?

Experimental rock Act Sugar Horse are back with not one, but two new video singles this week. The Bristol, UK based quartet have now released What’s Your ETA? Let’s Have a Tear Up and Would You Like Me to Be the Cat? via on Fat Dracula Records.

Let’s start with What’s Your ETA? Let’s Have a Tear Up.

A song for people that have faced two years of genocide and a century of anti-colonial struggle. Free Palestine. If you want to help the people of Palestine, please consider giving as much as you can afford to the good people at UNWRA.

The strength of feeling that comes through here is undeniable, and it makes it hard to review the song as I normally would. After all, Sugar Horse delight in creating disconcerting, experimental, and challenging music and this is them at their most disconcerting, experimental, and challenging. Yet, it’s a call to action, a wake-up-call for want of a better term, a reminder of the horrors occurring daily, so who the f**k am I judge it on its musical merit? Experience it, if you wish. Free Palestine.

Would You Like Me to Be the Cat? is a different beast altogether. I’m not just talking about how it compares to What’s Your ETA? Let’s Have a Tear Up either. This is a different Sugar Horse and the future is sounding pretty damn exciting. What we have here is something more subtle, more measured, airy and melodic, and with a ton of feeling. The ‘powering up’ and dramatic ending is delightful. A side to Sugar Horse that I’ll always love.
