Between the Buried and Me – Things We Tell Ourselves in the Dark

25 years and 10 genre-defining albums into their storied career, GRAMMY®-nominated Between the Buried and Me return with their most immersive and eclectic record yet: The Blue Nowhere, out September 12th via InsideOutMusic. The release also serves as the band’s debut for the label. The band has also offered fans a first feel for the new album with the release of the single ‘Things We Tell Ourselves in the Dark’ and its accompanying video.

Sounding as creative as ever, Between the Buried and Me are back, and the first taste of their new album is seriously funky, seriously proggy, and seriously groovy. If all of that wasn’t enough, it’s so dynamic, with so many eclectic and electric twists and turns across its (almost) eight-minute runtime. There is nobody quite like them and this track proves that… once again.

Jord – King of the Night

Swedish black metal outfit Jord return with their fourth studio album ‘Emellan Träden’. The new album will be released on 5th September via Hammerheart Records. The band are now releasing their first track ‘King of the Night’ in the form of a music video.

A first taste that is mighty sweet, but not lacking in bitter blackness, this new Jord single is a powerful effort. Highly melodic, dreamy in tone, but with a thick and bleak vein running through it that acts as an anchor. It’s a track that grows in strength and stature as it goes on, resulting in something quite compelling in the end. Check it out here.

The Dirty Nil – Rock N’ Roll Band

Ontario’s The Dirty Nil return with fists swinging on their new single, ‘Rock N’ Roll Band’, the latest from their forthcoming fifth studio album, ‘The Lash’, out July 25th via Dine Alone Records/Civilians.

A banging blast of straight-forward heavy rock music with some sharp lyrics delivered with a bit of a snarl. It’s an explosive listen, and a side to The Dirty Nil that we don’t see enough of. Short and to the point, it’s a track with so much replay value. This new album is shaping up to be pretty varied.

Tallah – augmented

Following the chaos of their last two singles, Tallah return with ‘augmented’, the latest single taken from their upcoming album ‘Primeval: Obsession // Detachment’, out 5th September via Earache Records.

Bassist Max Portnoy comments:

Probably the most ‘nu-core’ track on the record. It feels very reminiscent of where we came from but still steps into the sonic world of Primeval, with acoustic guitars and live strings at points. The experimentation is sprinkled on every song this album. I also wrote ‘augmented’ at the peak of my slap bass interest, and it made for the most intricate bass track in our discography. So many weird techniques crammed into this one. It’s a bitch to play.

An ‘in your face’ listen that embodies the ‘nu-core’ sound and how Tallah define it, while being undeniably experimental. It’s weird, but it is wonderful, especially from a bass perspective. While there is a little bit of ‘stepping back in time’ here, it’s also clear that this band is evolving with some of the more unique elements that crop up as it goes on. Check it out here.

Luther – Next Time Send a Killer

Luther, a fearless new face in alternative metal, has released their debut single, ‘Next Time Send a Killer’, alongside an accompanying video. Lyrically, the song traces the journey of someone unjustifiably attacked, isolated, and stripped of all resources and recognition – yet through pride and resilience, they crawl their way back into the light.

Every band/artist wants their debut single to land with a splash, but how often does that happen? I can’t promise that Luther’s debut single will, but it certainly deserves too. This band has all the parts to be so successful, with the most obvious being the incredible vocals. You can move to this one, and while it does belong in the ‘alternative metal’ genre, there’s a certain amount of indefinability to it. Luther have arrived, now let’s see where they go from here. Based off this banger, it’s going to be an exciting ride.

Profiler – Waste

Profiler are thrilled to release their highly anticipated new single ‘Waste’, continuing to redefine nu-metal. Following the success of 2024’s debut album, A Digital Nowhere (SharpTone Records), the band is busy in the studio working on its successor.

About the powerful and dynamic single ‘Waste’, vocalist Mike shares:

‘Waste’ is a track that discusses the theme of manipulation within relationships. It’s based around discovering your own self-worth from the stillness within. We tend to overlook the external environment which creates suffering. It is only when we have suffered enough, we finally realise everything we are seeking is already within ourselves.

There’s no denying that a nu-metal rebirth is in full swing these days, and bands like Profiler are leading the way. Both paying tribute to the sound and style, while modernising things. Which is the summation of this new track. Filled with all manner of nostalgic touches, but with plenty of fresh ideas too, resulting in a likable banger track overall. Check it out here.

Harroway – Narsociety

Sydney metalcore outfit Harroway have shared their new single ‘Narsociety’. A critique of a culture obsessed with self-image and validation at the cost of authenticity. It captures the internal turmoil of someone drowning in a digital dystopia, where endless scrolling, cheap dopamine hits and performative behaviour takes a heavy toll on identity and mental health.

One of the mightiest bands in Australia today, and the rest of the world is really starting to take notice. About time too, as they’ve been at the top of their game for some time now and this new single is further proof of that. A metalcore anthem with a soaring chorus and some really punchy drumming, just Harroway at their strongest.

Blackbriar – Harpy

Macabre raconteurs Blackbriar are proud to release their latest single, ‘Harpy’. The track weaves a tale about the mythological being, the Harpy – the spirit of the wind and storms, a chilling creature who was known to abduct people, particularly those cursed by the gods.

Vocalist Zora Cock comments:

In this song, I call upon a Harpy to please carry me away after I’ve died a thousand little deaths. I lure it with my carrion heart, after all, Harpies are known as human vultures. If not, I fear I might be stuck in the same place, slowly left eroding. I need to die one last time to be laid to rest finally. This song, Harpy, inspired the album title.

Bombastic and dramatic, which might seem ‘par for the course’ with Blackbriar, but this is a band that thrives on invention, and once again, they deliver something highly dynamic. It sits on the slower side of things, but the heft of the melody makes it feel heavier and certainly more intense. It’s a great example of a track matching the title and description as it does have a strong sense of soaring. Check it out here.

ADEPT – YOU

Swedish metalcore heavyweights ADEPT continue their triumphant return unleashing the new anthem ‘YOU’ alongside an official music video. The track dives deep into the emotional wreckage of love lost.

The band comment:

‘YOU’ is a classic breakup song built around the lingering ‘what if’ – a reflection on love, loss, and how time eventually swallows everything. It’s probably our most accessible track so far, combining a catchy topline with heavy riffs in a way that still feels true to our sound. We had a lot of fun experimenting with new elements on this one, and we’re incredibly proud of how it turned out.

The return is in full swing now and while that is something to celebrate, the fact that ADEPT have come back with such quality music, makes it all the more special. YOU is vibrant and filled with a ton of famailir metalcore excitability, but it’s also more alternative and with flashes of post-hardcore invention. It’s ADEPT showing off more layers to their sound and making sure everyone knows that this return is not just a rerun of their greatest hits. Check it out here.

Burning Witches – Inquisition

Swiss heavy metal powerhouse Burning Witches have announced their new studio album, ‘Inquisition’, out 22nd August 2025 via Napalm Records. They have also premiered the album’s title track single and video.

Pure head-banging mayhem in their inimitable style, Burning Witches are back, and keeping it simple, but so damn enjoyable. Filled with heavy metal flair, paying tribute to the giants of yesteryear, but also forging their hair-raising path forward, this is Burning Witches and they rock.

Psychonaut – Endless Currents

Belgian psychedelic post-metal masters Psychonaut return with news of their highly-anticipated new album World Maker. The new album is due 24th October via Pelagic Records – and, in celebration of the news, the trio have unveiled the first glimpse of the record, with single ‘Endless Currents’.

Delivering a post metal masterclass while being inherently progressive and still managing to make the whole thing feel trippy, Psychonaut’s new single is very special. One with layers of dreaminess, shored up by a harmonic chorus, and sense of drama that could be further explored on the full album. Either way, this is great. Check it out here.

Justice for the Damned – Stay Relentless

Sydney metal heavyweights Justice for the Damned have shared the title track to their long-awaited upcoming album, ‘Stay Relentless’, out August 15 via Greyscale Records. Written during a time of personal challenge, new single “Stay Relentless” channels hope and resilience and is a scathing affirmation for pushing through adversity with a steadfast mindset.

Say the band:

The track was written as a reminder to self that you can take whatever life throws at you when your mind is set on it. It’s interesting that the song became a premonition with the hurdles that would come at Justice that same year.

Boom! Just over two minutes of stomping fury and aggression. Justice for the Damned bring the crunching intensity here. Delivering something that makes you feel like you were smacked in the mouth, several times. They excel at this kind of addictive brutishness. Check it out here.

Orbit Culture – Death Above Live

Orbit Culture return from the frozen north with a new album and their first with Century Media Records that is aptly titled ‘Death Above Life’, due for a release on 3rd October 2025. After braving a storm with the first single ‘The Tales of War’, Orbit Culture take a bold step out of debilitating twilight with the next single and album title track ‘Death Above Life’.

On the new single, the band comment:

Our next song is the title track of the album – ‘Death Above Life’. While the first single, ‘The Tales Of War’, acted as a bridge to the next chapter, this one kicks the doors wide open. It’s darker, heavier, and leans into a more horror-driven side of Orbit Culture. Lyrically, it reflects a choice: when faced with the idea of continuing down a path surrounded by the wrong people, we sometimes know that we have to cut ties. It is not literally about choosing death but walking away from what is holding us back. ‘Death Above Life’ is about letting go of what no longer fits to make space for something real. It will see the light of day for the very first time at Download Festival.

It warms my heart to see this band being recognised for their brilliance, and all their hard work is paying off. Yet, there is no sitting back and this new album is shaping up to be their best one yet, possibly their heaviest. Which is laughable when you consider their back catalogue. Big riffs, pulverising drums, intense vocals, it will have you head banging hard, and then some.
