Interview: Getting to Know Night Thieves

Coming at you from the heart of the nation’s capital, UK alt-metal powerhouse Night Thieves return with seismic riffs, supremely melodic hooks, and a barrage of breath-taking, arena-sized anthems. The hard-hitting quartet are set to release their highly anticipated debut album in Spring 2026—but first, they have just delivered a stunning preview in the form of their brand new single and video, Obsidian, out now. In this interview, we get to know them a little better.

1. Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Hey! We’re NIGHT THIEVES and are made up of Jess (vocals), Paul (guitar), Rick (bass), and Ryan (drums). Night Thieves began in around 2017 when Jess and Rick were looking to start a new band after our previous project came to an end. In came Paul with a huge set of riffs and big choruses that came to define our sound. Ryan joined in 2023 and brought his massive drum sound along with him.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

The quick answer is alt-metal! But to be a bit more descriptive our sound is a blend of rock and metal with big heavy riffs and anthemic melodic hooks.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We have just released our new single ‘Obsidian’ along with a video so we’re busy promoting that and gearing up for our last two live dates, one in Wales on 15th November and the other in London on 6th December. Spring 2026 will see the release of our debut album and we’re excited to share more details on this very soon!

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

Finally revealing to everyone what we’ve been working on for a year! We’re so stoked to have our first album ready to go and can’t wait to see what 2026 holds for us.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

The work that has gone into the album has been monumental! We did a lot of experimenting and had over 40 song ideas. It has been awesome to create this album as a whole body of music, adding in new and exciting elements that are turned up to 11!

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

That is absolutely true. Individually some of us have not had an easy ride over the last 12 months so getting in the studio together for writing sessions has been a nice distraction and escape from reality. The album has a really great flow, following a journey through the writing process and the opportunity to do that has been really therapeutic, allowing us to disappear to the music and come out the other side.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

This is also true! Some of the initial song writing was challenging as things didn’t seem to work at first but persevering and quickly moving onto new ideas meant we found our stride and everything flowed much more easily. The main challenge was deciding which songs to progress, we had so many ideas and trying to keep on track and not disappear down a rabbit hole following songs that didn’t fit in the context of the album was really hard. In the end we ended up with a collection of songs we are so proud of and compliment each other.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

We have probably found a good balance and for us it’s not just about putting out content but engaging with other posts and comments, whether that’s our followers, other bands etc.. Social media is a great tool to engage with potential audiences but at the same time we want to stay in the real world and connect at gigs and in person as well.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

By not putting pressure on ourselves to constantly push out content. At the end of the day we make music because we love creating something special and being able to share that with people. The whole process of creating music is enjoyable and the birthing that comes with it, creating videos, gigs and artwork,

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

Sharing our music and coming out to live shows, which not only supports us but supports live music venues. Any interaction is great, whether it’s in person or through social media, we love hearing from you and your stories!

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

We all have different ways of relaxing, some of us like to keep active at the gym or in sport as well as being creative in other mediums such as design and technology. One thing we all have in common is relaxing at home with our families.

12. Where can people find you?

At one of our shows! Come and hang out. We would love to meet you!!!
