Interview: Getting to Know Lullaby Riot (Written)
Lullaby Riot bring their own blend of relentless punk mixed with lyrics ranging from the day to day grind of modern life to the state of the world today. In this interview, we get to know them a little better.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
The band got started in July of 2023, the idea was to make punk but with a twist, mixing in other ideas and sounds that a listener might not expect to hear.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
I’d say it’s angry, it’s fast and there’s a message behind the songs too.
3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?
The new EP comes out later this year, we finished recording recently and it’s currently being mixed, we’ll be releasing some music videos for some of the songs, and then hopefully head back to the studio early next year.
4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?
We recently finished what will be our first properly recorded EP, we have three songs that we’ve been doing for a while and people love but given a much needed polish, and then a newer one we haven’t played much yet called Out Of Here, it’s really exciting to hear these songs in a professional studio environment!
5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.
It’s the culmination of a couple years or so, a few line up changes, and some other struggles. It’ll mean a lot to be able to let an audience hear the songs the way we intended for them to be heard.
6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?
It’s great to be able to have an idea in your head, and then to show that to others and see what they can add to it. So there is a collaborative element which I think elevates the music, it’s great for anyone to be able to take a feeling, good or bad and turn it into something that others can relate to.
7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges has been finding people that might be into what we do, like many places in the UK there isn’t a huge punk scene everywhere, so we’ve struggled with that. We try to over come that by sticking in there and if we can find one person out of however many is there that goes home and listens to us again then we’ve done something right.
8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?
As any band can tell you it’s a jungle most of the time, for me personally social media is a great way to keep in contact but it’s just one small hat you need to wear now days. I don’t pay too much attention to our socials, it’s a nice tool but it’s just that, it’s not something to live and die by. We try to focus on writing the best songs we can and if they are good enough people will hopefully want to listen more and come to shows.

9. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?
The same way you can support any band big or small, come to a show, grab some merch, say you like their tasty riffs, it all helps!
10. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?
I haven’t relaxed since 2011.
11. Where can people find you?
You’ll find us on Facebook, Instagram and Spotify.
