Interview: Getting to Know Bonnie and the Jets (Written)

Following a string of critically acclaimed singles and highly energetic live shows, Norwegian based soul-rock band Bonnie and the Jets are back with their new full-length album ‘II’. In this interview, we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

We’re a band based in Oslo, Norway, made up of people with different musical backgrounds and preferences, merging our talents and passion into something uniquely our own. We´ve decided to call our sound “soulrock”.

The band was formed in the autumn of 2019, but the pandemic stretched out the process of finishing our debut album and delayed our chance to play live. Ever since that we´ve been very active, both with recording music and playing live.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

Soulrock.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video?

Playing live, or planning ahead? We’re currently working on our third album in our trilogy and just released the second one “II”. Shaping the demos and getting ready to go into the studio soon.

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

We’ve just came back from the amazing Dark Season Blues, Svalbard and will be living off that experience for a while.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

Making Bonnie and the Jets a reality has taken a lot of hard work, dedication, time and money. It is a lifestyle, rather than a 9 to 5 kind of thing.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

It’s inevitable for me to write music ; it’s a part of who I am, and it’s deeply connected to my mental health.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

Making music and dedicate most of your time to a band today can be incredibly rewarding, but also very challenging. One of the hardest parts has been standing out in a world where there’s so much content and “competition”. It’s easy to feel lost in the noise, especially when social media plays such a big role in how music is discovered. Another challenge has been balancing creativity with everyday responsibilities.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

It can be quite a challenge to be honest.. But most of the time I manage to find a kind of balance in it..

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

I think its about staying true to your taste and sound and not compromising with oneself.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

I think the most important thing fans can do is showing up to concerts, buying merch and vinyl.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

Being in nature and also meditating. One of the biggest go to-s in life.

12. Where can people find you?

Anywhere on social media, and basically all streaming services. As well as our website: bonnieandthejets.com
