Horror Short Review: Hymn (2024)

From the Screaming Unicorn team comes another slice of festive horror fun. It’s Hymn, and it’s a creative take on the slasher genre. Creators Emma Sinclair and Sean Langdon have gone the energetic route here, and the result is memorable watch.

Holly (Rebekah Copeland) does not like Christmas, and her distinct lack of Christmas cheer bothers her friend, Ruth (Emma Sinclair). Following a video call, the former settles down for her own version of a cold, winter’s evening in alone (after upsetting some carollers) but quickly finds out that someone has decided to make this a Christmas she is never going to forget.

Building tension in classic slasher fashion, Hymn’s setup is strong, and when the horror does start, it’s enjoyable. However, it’s the final third that really delivers, and it’s all thanks to some good blood and gore effects. It’s also suitably Christmassy and that is never a bad thing!
