Horror Movie Review: Odder Noggins (2023)
It’s crass, it’s tasteless, it’s downright ugly, and it makes no sense.
That there, is a summation I wrote about Odd Noggins in my review, but it’s also the perfect summation of this sequel, Odder Noggins. A sequel that no-one, except writer and director Joe Sherlock, was asking for.
Hold on to your asses, or in this case, your voluptuous breasts (should you have them), Odder Noggins is as weird as Odd Noggins was.

The story follows two characters whose stories seem initially separate, but over the film’s substantial run time, the two stories eventually meet. One story surrounds the inter-dimensional alien scientist, Mr. Birch who is back doing more experiments on random humans. Whereas the other involves a spy who is tasked with finding other spies within her organisation. To do this, she has a camera implanted in her left breast. This here sums up the absurdity of Odder Noggins.
Yet, I do think it’s a more ordered film, easier to follow and easier to enjoy. Just about.

One of the more positive aspects of the first film that also applies here is the uniqueness of the story. Joe Sherlock has imagination and is willing to push boundaries (give the man some cash and I reckon he would make something really special), and Odder Noggins is a very strange film. A strange film with compelling elements that hook the viewer in, to some degree. It’s not all boobs and blood, although there are plenty of both to look at too.

However, while I do find myself warmer to Odder Noggins, I’m not going to pretend that your average viewer is going to enjoy it. It’s riddled with issues relating to pacing, acting, visuals, and sound. Once again, I think the story needed to be tightened up and the run time cut down. While I don’t think it’s as egregious as Odd Noggins, Odder Noggins just doesn’t know when to quit.

The acting is notably hit and miss, but the main characters are better defined, delivering a lot of their dialogue with gusto, and having some fun along the way too. Of course there are bad lines, delivered with an awkwardness that you’ll feel, but often, the actors are able to distract by doing something odd or just taking their clothes off. Just like the first film, we have a cast more than happy to take their clothes off.

The more it goes on, the weirder it becomes, but the more sense it makes. It’s an improvement over the original film and worth a watch if you can stomach a certain amount of senselessness. Just keep those expectations in check.
