GBHBL’s Top 10 Games of 2025
It is fair to say that 2025 hasn’t had a slew of unforgettable video game releases, but it is also fair to say that the games that were good, really stood out. There were some genuinely brilliant releases this year, many of which we have been able to play, many of which we’ve not been able to get to yet.
This top ten is based entirely on the games we’ve played only. These are our top ten games of 2025.
10 – RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business

A standalone piece of additional content that doesn’t require players to have played the original Rogue City, RoboCop: Rogue City – Unfinished Business puts players back in the metal shoes of Alex Murphy. Except this time developer Teyon has you assaulting the OmniTower, a massive housing unit that is filled with criminals, and everyday people just trying to survive under the watchful eye of OCP.
9 – Atomfall

The British equivalent of Fallout, albeit on a smaller and less refined scale, Atomfall is an ambitious first-person survival adventure game developed and published by Rebellion. One that uses the real-life 1957 Windscale fire to tell an alternate history story set in the Lake District, Cumbria area of the UK.
We enjoyed our time in Atomfall, and found it to be nice to look at, decent to play, and fun to finish. It’s not going to topple the champ, Fallout, but as an addition to the survival adventure genre, it’s more than welcome.
8 – Jurassic World Evolution 3

Jurassic World Evolution 3 is so much more than some tweaks. Frontier Developments have looked at their franchise to date, taken what works & improved on almost everything. Alongside that, they’ve trimmed the fat off, made the UI more accessible, made the management aspects more fun, and put the focus back on the dinosaurs.
This time the ‘oohs’ and ‘ahhs’ will be coming from a whole different set of dinosaurs, naturally born. Of course, the screams will follow soon enough.
7 – Elden Ring Nightreign

While it wasn’t the new Elden Ring content that anyone really wanted, there’s no denying that Nightreign went above and beyond expectations. So much more than just ‘DLC’, Nightreign is a standalone piece of content that focuses on roguelike and cooperative mechanics. Not only is it wholly addictive and immersive, but it has the kind of replay value that the main game was lacking (not that it needed it, to be fair). It was a joy to return to Limgrave, albeit one transformed into Limveld, and put an end to the reign of night.
6 – Keeper

We just don’t get enough games like this one anymore. It delivers some much-needed simplicity in a sea of overly bloated video games. Keeper is a beautifully told and rendered wordless story that anyone can enjoy. The vibrancy of its colours is a next-gen feast for the eyes.
5 – South of Midnight

South of Midnight stood out as one of the best games of 2025 because of its unique Southern folklore setting, emotionally resonant storytelling, and striking artistic vision, all of which elevated a greatly appreciated linear action-adventure into something memorable and culturally rich. The soundtrack alone, elevates it as a game.
4 – Doom: The Dark Ages

We’re in the minority with this one but we loved the platforming aspects of Doom Eternal so going back to being a lumbering tank of destruction took a little getting used to. Still, we do believe Doom: The Dark Ages earned its place as one of the best games of 2025 because it successfully reinvented the franchise while staying true to its brutal, fast-paced roots. It was quite a bold risk to shift the setting from futuristic sci-fi to medieval fantasy, but it paid off tremendously.
3 – The Alters

This is one of those games that the vast majority of people are going to overlook but those that have played it will never stop thinking about it, never stop recommending it. The concept is so simple, but it’s executed with so much beautifully handled detail. The gameplay loop is insanely addictive with the perfect blend of relaxation and urgency mixed into one. The narrative is so unique, and it’s told in such a clever way, filled with moments of joy, sadness and genuine contemplation. It epitomises why we love video games.
2 – Silent Hill f

An incredible return to form for Silent Hill, offering up fans something fresh and interesting, but also nostalgic and familiar. The story is gripping, even as it goes in some really unusual directions, and while fantasy is embedded within, the horror remains prevalent throughout. Especially as this is horror based within reality and the game deals with some heady subjects. Alongside that, we have stunning visuals, great voice acting, varied gameplay, interesting and challenging puzzles, big boss battles, and tons of replay value that will slowly show the whole picture over multiple playthroughs.
1 – Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

What else can be said about this game that hasn’t been said over and over again? In a world that sometimes feels devoid of creativity and genuine originality, out of nowhere came this game to prove everyone wrong. What more can you ask for from a video game? It delivers it all. Stunning visuals, mind-blowing storytelling with twist after twist that somehow make sense, a beautiful soundtrack, impeccable voice-acting and best of all, it proved that turn-based combat can still deliver.
