EP Review: What Will Be – Primordial (Self Released)
What Will Be’s new EP, ‘Primordial’, is a four-track project inspired by the primordial elements – wind, water, fire, and earth. Each track represents a different emotional and thematic force, from resilience and positivity to confronting depression and reflecting on the past. It will be released on February 6th, 2026.

Having been following the alternative rock band since 2023, one of the more fascinating aspects of this new EP is how it displays a heavier sound suggesting that What Will Be are heading in a different direction now. Though it’s not such a shift that it’s hard to believe, in fact, it feels quite natural as their core sound is still rooted in the alternative world.
Kicking off with On the Wind, there’s a punchiness to the melodies, a slightly rawer tone to the rock, and plenty of infectious touches. It’s a solid start, but for me, the release really gets good with Tides. An imaginative effort rooted in simple, but powerful alternative catchiness. However, it is how it impressively shifts with synth that makes it special. I really like this track and whereas the opener didn’t feel that inspired, this one feels the opposite.
Into the Fire is next and has the group leaning deeply into their melodic side, delivering emotional layers led by smooth vocals, before ramping up to be a bit more potent come the end. It’s another great track that shows off the developed palette of What Will Be, leading to the end with Fall from Earth. A lively and catchy finish.
I really like the EP, especially as you can track the changes within the band and how they are progressing. There’s work to be done, but they’re well on their way to being a really notable name in the alternative rock and metal scene if they carry on this way.
