EP Review: Walk in Coma – Human Condition (Self Released)
Modern/alternative metal band, Walk in Coma are back with their brand-new EP, ‘Human Condition’, out now.
Who doesn’t love a shadow drop!? It’s risky, but to be fair, it’s not been a secret that Walk in Coma have had a new release coming. So, drop everything, choose your favourite streaming platform, press play and get your ears around five groovy head bangers that deliver fresh modern metal sounds.
A surprisingly cinematic intro evolves into sharper and more intense metallised sounds on the impressive Ritual. Walk in Coma bringing the heaviness but also giving the listener something infectious with a more melodic chorus. That’s the side of Walk in Coma that seems to have evolved the most here, but damn it, if I don’t find myself enjoying the hell out of their savage side. Which is what the mean and meaty Suffer gives me.
Again, I dig the synth intro of Dead Reckoning and the way it explodes into life is liable to give some heart palpitations. This is Walk in Coma at their most experimental, drawing from the richness and variety of their influences and giving the whole track a bit of a nu-feel. Here, the melody and clean singing have a grungy alternative edge that really fits the explosive heavier side of things.
That’s probably my favourite track, but it’s hard to narrow it down as each of the five proves to be a bit of banger. God of the Gaps is moody and dramatic, with some of the EP’s most eclectic guitar parts, and the title track goes fast, hard, and very epic in the chorus. The ending is surprisingly touching.
Consistently delivering memorable releases, Walk in Coma are one of the UK’s hidden gems. Perhaps it’s time they got the recognition they deserve, eh?
