EP Review: Edit The Tide – The Space Between Seconds (Self Released)

Welsh alt-metal outfit Edit The Tide return on November 21st, 2025 with their new EP, The Space Between Seconds.

Formed in Bridgend in 2023, Edit The Tide have quickly established themselves as one of the most promising names in the Welsh alternative metal scene. Their debut release, Reflections in Sound, arrived in April 2024 and made an immediate impact – earning airplay from Kerrang! Radio and BBC Introducing Wales, along with positive coverage in Powerplay and Devolution Magazine.

Since then, the band have taken their sound to stages across the UK, supporting acts like Punk Rock Factory, The Virginmarys, and Chuggaboom, as well as delivering a sold-out hometown show in Cardiff. Here, on The Space Between Seconds, Edit The Tide look to deliver something both cinematic and personal, building on that debut but pushing further.

Edit The Tide state:

“This record captures a lot of what we’ve been through together — both as a band and as individuals. It explores themes of space, time, fear, failure, love, regret, and addiction. It’s raw and honest — a reflection of our journey, our growth, and where we stand now.”

Edit The Tide is Benjamin James on vocals, Rob Norris on guitar and backing vocals, Dave Snell on bass, and Rudy Mason on drums.

Starting off with Echoes, I get a good insight into a band I don’t really know very much about. It’s a polished track, catchy and feels heartfelt. I like the clean vocals. They stay mostly clean throughout, until we reach the closing section of the song where we do move to shouted vocals. They have plenty of power and depth too so that’s a win. Overall, the song is comfortable, and easy to listen to, has a steady beat and some nice guitar work both in the riffs, melodies and the very cool solo. It’s a strong start and a a good first impression.

The Cost of Standing Still ups the ante a bit with a quicker tempo and some strong drum beats in the intro. It’s quickly engaging, and catchy and as the song progresses, I think we see a bit more of the variety and creativity Edit The Tide have to offer. Rocking verses lead into a harder prechorus and then into a catchy chorus. The riffs are crunchy, the melody, more subtle and there is a little backing that adds atmosphere and depth. Vocals are strong again, and transitions into heavier vocals, and some clean/heavy blending works wonderfully. There is more of a metal tint here, perhaps explaining why I like it so much, but it also helps that it is really well written,  flows perfectly and has a lot of variety in it.

Dancing With Shadows is up next on The Space Between Seconds and brings a fair chunk of groove with some meaty bass work, strong intermittent drum patterns and slamming riffs. Despite having those heavier elements, the production, and the vocals keep the song in the realm of hard and heavy rock at times, then when the heavier vocals are unleashed, the emphasis turns more towards that alt-metal sound. I really love the solo on this one again, and that’s a hat trick of strong choruses.

Antithesis sees Edit The Tide deliver a neat acoustic intro, making me think we are getting a ballad. It’s well sung, with some nice harmonising and delicate melodies then, to my surprise, quickly transitions into a punchy song with wicked drum beats and powerful riffs. Harsh vocals and cleans work together, at times, and oppose each other at others. There’s nothing I like more than a well sung clean line with harsh backing and we get plenty of that here. Despite the heavier elements, the overall vibe is still emotional and honest. I think it is the track that combines the most different styles, transitions and ambition so far and I adore it. Comfortably my favourite on The Space Between Seconds so far.

Time and Error comes next to close out a very impressive release. A high bar has been set with Antithesis but this track does push it very close. Stylistically, by now I know what Edit The Tide are about and there are no real surprises here but it’s a strong example of what they offer. Strong musicianship and vocals with plenty of smooth transitions between rock and metal styles. There are some extended heavier verses here which pleases me greatly, and some really neat lead guitar work. The foundation of drums, bass and riffs adds power and depth and everything is combined well through obvious skill in song writing, and flow.

The Space Between Seconds is a genuinely impressive release that showcases Edit The Tide’s knack for blending heartfelt melody with punchy alt-metal heaviness. The vocals, both clean and harsh, are consistently strong, the musicianship is tight, and the songwriting flows with real confidence, variety and emotion. From polished hooks to heavier bursts of energy, the band balance accessibility with weight, delivering a sound that feels honest, well-crafted and full of personality. It’s a release that not only highlights their growth, but firmly marks them as a band worth paying serious attention to.
