EP Review: Diesect – Hide from the Light (Greyscale Records)
Diesect’s new EP ‘Hide from the Light’ is the band’s third, and is their first with Greyscale Records, out on May 30th, 2025. The EP thematically tells the story of an individual gradually losing faith or hope in being able to heal, until the desire to try passes and they are wilfully consumed by the negative.

Chaotic and intense, manically blending electronica and metal, and infusing a hell of a lot of passion into things, Diesect’s new EP is an eccentrically heavy release, kicking off with an absolute belter in the form of the title track. Diesect go the ‘hard and heavy’ route here, delivering an intense amount of stompy energy with abrasive layers of unusual effects. It is the kind of track that will cause carnage in the live environment, but that could also apply to every track here. Diesect are on rabid form, and the danger only increases with Too Many Scars.
Here, the band show off more groove, more abrasive elements, and more influences from a wider array of genres. It’s a seriously sharp jab to the side of the head, and while you might be left seeing stars, you’ll want another. Happily, this is an EP with a massive amount of forward momentum and Pretty Much Dead arrives in cacophony of savage sounding noise. Diesect at their heaviest, swinging eye-watering instrumental heft and delivering some seriously scathing vocals. It’s one of the EP’s most addictive listens, even if it is such an assault on the senses.
In case you’ve not clocked it yet, this EP is a showcase of Diesect’s darker and heavier side. It’s layered with gloom, focused on spitting and snarling with excessive intensity, and being dangerously addictive. With Shura, once again, they bring forth a big, ballsy, and brutish metalcore tune. One with a staggering amount of raw intensity blended with experimental elements that give it a ‘nu’ flavour. This, alongside, There Was Never Light, which is two-ish minutes of disturbing atmosphere and Diesect hitting their instruments as hard as possible.
Absurdly heavy.
Finally, it’s Suffer in the Dark, and a more elaborate showcase of their wild ways, especially when the tempo increases and it transforms into something daringly rhythmic. Of course, when they slow things down, it comes with an insane amount of force, but if there’s one thing this EP has proven, it is that Diesect’s power in the heavy realm is near unmatched. Six absolute bangers that will leave you feeling like you’re concussed.
