EP Review: Crowgod – Emergence (Self Released)

Crowgod, the Brighton, UK, based progressive sludge and doom band have released their brand-new EP, ‘Emergence’.

A band that deserves far more attention than they are given, Crowgod have been steadily plugging away in the UK underground for a while now and have built themselves a solid reputation with their unique style of sludge and doom. Weaved together, alongside psychedelic touches and progressive atmosphere, it results in a sound that is fresh and exciting to the ears.

This new EP is four-tracks long and showcases just how talented Crowgod are. Varied melodic tones, destructive and harsh heaviness, deep and ethereal atmosphere, Crowgod take the listener on a journey here and it’s a journey led by enchanting vocals that alternate, smoothly, between being melancholic and venomous. Each track delivers something unforgettable, but if you want one track of the four that delivers on everything great about this band, I insist that you listen to The Witch.

Trust me though, you want to give the whole EP the time it deserves. From Shadows’ soul crushing doominess and dramatic melodies, to Mother’s weird and wonderful liveliness, and Just Passing Through’s potent progressive ideas that blend expertly with smooth harmonies and explosive heaviness. It’s 25 minutes of brilliance.
