Bloodstock 2025 Band Feature: ThunarWülf
It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s Bloodstock time and 2025 is looking to be one of the best events the festival has ever put on, if we’re judging it by bands… which we are, of course.
Taking place at Catton Park, Derbyshire from August 7th to August 10th, Bloodstock Festival 2025 has not only sold out all its weekend tickets, but it also sold out day tickets for the Saturday and the Sunday and it seems likely that Friday will follow suit before the festival actually starts. Boasting a lineup that includes the likes of Emperor, Lacuna Coil, Ministry, Mastodon, Fear Factory, Static-X, Nailbomb, Kataklysm, Obituary, and headliners, Trivium, Machine Head, Gojira, and so much more spread across four stages, it’s going to be one hell of a weekend.

ThunarWülf
Rising from the old kingdom of Hen Ogledd, ThunarWülf (olde English for Thunder Wolf) formed in 2022, with their first EP, ‘Woad’, being released at the end of the year. Bringing forward an energetic and aggressive mix of huge riffs, traditional folk melodies from the British Isles and beyond, sprinkled with catchy hooks.
Anyone who has seen them live can attest to their talents too, taking that lovable folk metal sound and bringing it to the stage with aplomb. We know, we’ve seen them play before and had this to say about 2023 AoniaFest V show:
The day begins with something visually arresting and sonically pleasing in ThunarWülf. Being completely unfamiliar with them before they were announced for the fest, if there’s one impression ThunarWülf leave us with, it’s their dedication to their craft. A new band (2022), they promise traditional folk melodies with big metal hooks and even bigger riffs, and they deliver. It’s a very impressive showing for such a new band and there’s no doubt they will continue to grow when this is the stuff they have to offer.

Well, as predicted, they’ve grown and the proof is in the fact they entered the challenging Sheffield Metal 2 the Masses competition and won, securing their spot at Bloodstock. As well as releasing the new single, ‘We Ride’ and setting up a very strong latter part of the year with even more new music and tons of live shows. For ThunarWülf, Bloodstock is the part of the journey, not the end destination.
It’s time to sing songs of ancient myths and legends, many of which have remained untold since ages past. Fill your steins, raise your horns, and don your woad, for tonight, WE RIDE! Before we do that though, we asked ThunarWülf what it means to play the festival this year, what Bloodstock overall means to them, and what attendees can expect from their set, and this is what they had to say:
After years of attending Bloodstock as fans, it’s an honour for the Wülves to descend on Bloodstock’s New Blood Stage!
Bloodstock is one of the few rare gems that can grow over time, get bigger and more well-known bands, yet still keep booking some utterly awesome hidden gems and niche acts. We’re all massive fans of power metal, black metal and death metal, so Bloodstocks always been an awesome lineup from our perspective. On top of that, the crowd and regulars are like one big family. It’s an awesome community on top of an awesome festival. To play at such an awesome festival is a real honour!
Join us in our ritual as we sing of wraiths and warriors, hags and heathens, and of half-whispered tales with mud on our boots and mead on our breath. Folk melodies carried over metal riffs, not to mention plenty of antlers, ivy, banners, candles and incense. When we play, both on and off stage there’s an energy from the immersion, the visuals, the music. A live gig should be a performance, and we aim to make it that.
