Bloodstock 2025 Band Feature: Maatkare

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s Bloodstock time and 2025 is looking to be one of the best events the festival has ever put on, if we’re judging it by bands… which we are, of course.

Taking place at Catton Park, Derbyshire from August 7th to August 10th, Bloodstock Festival 2025 has not only sold out all its weekend tickets, but it also sold out day tickets for the Saturday and the Sunday and it seems likely that Friday will follow suit before the festival actually starts. Boasting a lineup that includes the likes of Emperor, Lacuna Coil, Ministry, Mastodon, Fear Factory, Static-X, Nailbomb, Kataklysm, Obituary, and headliners, Trivium, Machine Head, Gojira, and so much more spread across four stages, it’s going to be one hell of a weekend.

Maatkare

How great are Maatkare!? Named after one of Pharaoh Hatshepsut’s many titles, they embody the unyielding strength of female power – past, present, and future. A unique force in the death metal scene, with vocalist Janneke de Rooy (Beyond the Pale), guitarist Georgia Bell (Ex Pretty Little Enemy, session guitarist for Harper), and bassist Amie Chatterley (Dakesis, WomenOwar) bringing their collective talents together to create a powerful, history-infused musical experience.

They’ve been around since 2020, but it was 2024 that really saw them rise to prominence with a slew of fantastic singles, leading to the much-anticipated release of their debut album ‘Rise to Power’. An incredible album that perfectly blends death metal with the raw intensity of Egyptian history and mythology, all from a fierce, feminine perspective.

You’ll struggle to find anyone with a bad word to say about it, with us summing it (and the band) up as proof that:

Death metal has a new band to be reckoned with and based off this record; they could be giants.

Drawing influence from bands such as Nile, Scarab, Septic Flesh, Behemoth, Arch Enemy, and Kataklysm, and delivering a live show has that is exceptional proficient, while being undeniably feral, they are one of the exciting band’s to be playing the entire weekend, let alone the EMP stage.

We can’t wait, and neither can they as they told us:

We are really excited to be bringing Maatkare to the hallowed grounds of Bloodstock Open Air! Bloodstock has long been a champion of emerging talent, and we are honoured to be joining such an incredible lineup and to be adding BOA to our touring plans.
