Bloodstock 2025 Band Feature: Famyne

It’s the most wonderful time of the year! It’s Bloodstock time and 2025 is looking to be one of the best events the festival has ever put on, if we’re judging it by bands… which we are, of course.

Taking place at Catton Park, Derbyshire from August 7th to August 10th, Bloodstock Festival 2025 has not only sold out all its weekend tickets, but it also sold out day tickets for the Saturday and the Sunday and it seems likely that Friday will follow suit before the festival actually starts. Boasting a lineup that includes the likes of Emperor, Lacuna Coil, Ministry, Mastodon, Fear Factory, Static-X, Nailbomb, Kataklysm, Obituary, and headliners, Trivium, Machine Head, Gojira, and so much more spread across four stages, it’s going to be one hell of a weekend.

Famyne

Hailing from the heart of the garden of England, Canterbury Doom outfit Famyne have, ever since conception in 2014, been steadily building a name for themselves, and a sound all of their own.

Gathering a dedicated following from the very first moment they exploded onto the scene, they quickly released the ‘Famyne EP’ in 2015, which spread their low, slow and haunting sound right across the metal world and beyond. The following year, the band won the Metal 2 the Masses competition in Kent, earning a place at Bloodstock Open Air 2016, before playing at Into The Grave Festival that same year in The Netherlands – their first foray into the wider doom community, but certainly not the last.

Famyne bring an insatiably energetic live performance, with hypnotic waves of crushing riffs and pounding rhythm, smothered in pure dread, expressed in the distinct, inimitable voice of their lead vocalist.

By the close of 2018, the band had self released their debut full-length album to critical acclaim, following it up with an extensive tour of Europe, which further pushed home their prototypical, distinct sound, and allowed citizens across the old world to experience them first hand. But they didn’t stop there: with ever increasing acclaim and momentum, in 2019 Famyne toured 11 countries once again, working hard to cement the reputation they had gained; dragging doom kicking and screaming into the 21st century, signing to Svart Records that same year.

Never one to rest on their laurels, during the lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 the lads feverishly worked on the follow-up to their self-titled album, testing some unreleased material on the rapturous thousands gathered before them in the S.O.P.H.I.E. tent, at Bloodstock Open Air 2021.

In May of the following year the band’s second album Famyne II: The Ground Below was released through Svart records, once again to critical acclaim. The album represents an evolution in the band’s sound, with heavier songs on an altogether more epic scale, yet still they remain true to their doomy roots. The band toured both continental Europe and the UK throughout 2022/23 in support of the release, with highlights including opening the main stage at Into the Grave Fest, NL and also performing in Reykjavik, Iceland’s capital.

In 2024, the band begun work on their third full length album, which shows a further development of their style into unknown territories, whilst still being firmly rooted in the doom bracket. A flurry of appearances in both the UK and EU with highlights including Red Crust Festival (Scotland), Siege of Limerick (ROI), & Margate Rock Festival.

In 2025, Famyne headlined the Black Heart stage of Desertfest London, and will appear on the main stage of Bloodstock Open Air.

Meanwhile, the third album looms ever closer… Watch this space.

It is nothing short of phenomenal to see Famyne make their long-awaited return to Bloodstock and on the main stage too. We spoke to them about this return, finding out what it means to come back, what they learned the last time they played, the boost that offered them, and what fans can expect from their set this year:

It’s a true privilege to be asked to come back and this time play the main stage; it’s an upward trajectory that we intend to keep riding.

We learned something about the necessity of managing adrenaline and pacing ourselves; the sheer excitement of performing at such a big event can very easily carry you away, so it’s important to not blow all your energy on the first couple of songs.

It was a massive boost for us emotionally as a band, that and it put our name out there in ways we couldn’t have imagined in the early days.

This year, expect early morning doom… maybe even a new track!
