Album Review: Why Patterns – Screamers (Human Worth)

Following from their uncompromising and off-kilter 2022 debut album ‘Regurgitorium’, Why Patterns return with an ear assaulting about turn on their sophomore record ‘Screamers’. Out 11th July, 2025, via Human Worth.

Well, this is fucking weird. Easily one of 2025’s most unique records, especially as it has so many ‘Britishisms’. If you’re wondering what that means, well, just listen to the record and you’ll get it, even if ‘getting’ this record is no easy task.

16-minutes of madness, Why Patterns have strived to create something so distinctive, so abrasive, so interesting, and so lovable, provided you like a bit of noise. I do, but I won’t lie to you… this was a challenging listen for me.

It’s the randomness that really had an effect on me. There’s keeping me guessing and then there is keeping me in the dark completely. I’ve rarely felt this unsteady listening to a record, but that gets better the more times it is heard. It does have tons of replay value too, not just because it is short, but because it has so much to offer.

Genre defying in all the best ways, Why Patterns are so undefinable and no matter what this record gives to you personally, it remains one of 2025’s most diverse listening experiences. Where each individual member brings their own unique voice to things, yet it is still an impressively cohesive listen.

Why Patterns are impressively locked in here and have easily surpassed what they did on their debut. The more time spent in the company of this record, the more it rewards. It never stops being challenging, but so much of it starts to make more sense. Sometimes just through sheer bullish repetition. It’s like Why Patterns beat the mind into submission.

Fun, right? In all seriousness, Screamers is not for everyone. In fact it’s not for many, but those it is for (anyone’s guess) will likely love it. There is something so addictive about it and I insist you listen to it to find out how it resonates with you. It’s 16-minutes long, so there’s no reason to not try it at least once.
