Album Review: Voidlurker – Loathe For Life (APF Records)

Sludge-doom trio Voidlurker will release their brand-new album, ‘Loathe for Life’, out on the 26th of September 2025, via APF Records.

I f**king love a bit of filth, doomy and sludgy filth, and one that always manages to deliver is Voidlurker. The Brummie trio are an uncomplicated bunch, and Loathe for Life doesn’t upend the formula, but f**k it, does it slay. Slowly and with teeth-crunching force.

Featuring four hefty and harsh tracks, the kind that makes the mind sink into dark mires, causes the body to spasm uncontrollably, and ensures the bowels will quiver like they’re made of jelly. Loathe for Life isn’t pretty, but it does show off refined edges and more musical aptitude then what they were doing on the EP Industrial Nightmare. Mind you, that was 2020. It turns out that years of playing live will pay off.

Opening with the hench sound of Green Ghost, the breadth of Voidlurker’s doomy, sludgy sound is on clear display. Where monolithic riffing, meaty drums, and glowering vocals combine to create something that is downright hypnotic.

Then it’s the title track, and here the fuzz thickens in places, some psychedelia sneaks in, the vocals get a bit rawer, and the potency of the slow, doomy approach reaches its apex. It’s f**ing great, but so is S.O.B and all because of the tectonic heaviness of the riffs, although it would be a damn shame if the vocals weren’t given a ton of props here too. Nasty as hell.

Finally, it’s Time Heals Nothing and it’s an explosive finish, just the kind that comes in slower fashion. If you thought the previous three tracks sounded vitriolic, well, you’re in for a treat, especially as it ends in nauseatingly slow and distorted fashion. Or maybe not, after all this kind of viscous heaviness isn’t for everyone.

I love it though. I think Voidlurker are sounding so much stronger, and as niche as this kind of metal is, it’s still likely to win them a ton of new fans.
