Album Review: The Devil Wears Prada – Flowers (Solid State Records)
Iconic metalcore band, The Devil Wears Prada return with their brand-new album, ‘Flowers’, out on November 14th, 2025, via Solid State Records. A record that captures both their 20-year legacy and their relentless drive to evolve.

I used to believe that if I got everything I wanted, maybe then I’d finally be happy.
Those are the words that introduce That Same Place, and alongside deeply emotional piano melody and dramatic strings, the album. It’s sobering stuff and a staggering showcase of this album’s experimental nature. This is The Devil Wears Prada, evolved and more alive than ever.
But all of that was just a dream, and now, it’s over.
Bursting forth with one of the album’s most anthemic tracks, the album properly gets started with the lovable Where the Flowers Grow. Here, we really hear the creative intensity of the album, filled with heart and soul, raw and honest, but with punchy energy and a shout along chorus. The breakdown at the end is very cool too.
As the album goes on, there is no doubting that The Devil Wears Prada threw all of themselves into this one and looked at the length and breadth of their career to find creativity. There’s a little something from every era of the band here, but they’ve also looked at the wider metalcore picture too.
That’s how we end up with modern-sounding electronica-infused hits like Everybody Knows and So Low. The latter of which blends poppy melodies with crushing metal groove so damn well. It’s also how we end up with massive sounding metalcore anthems like For You, crunching efforts like All Out (one of the album’s heaviest efforts), and big, vibrant efforts like Ritual, with a chorus and breakdown that you can’t help but go wild to. It’s a collection of bangers, exciting and experimental, and celebrating everything great about this band.
Does that mean it’s a little all over the place? Of course, but what it lacks in cohesion, it makes up for in memorability. The Devil Wears Prada have always been great at creating an album with hits, but one with this many!? That’s what makes this album so damn impressive.
Personally, I dig it hard and found myself just as invested in a lot of the latter half, especially as the connection with the band just deepens when given something as emotionally effective as When You’re Gone. A modern Devil Wears Prada classic, especially as it’s followed by the touching melody of The Sky Behind the Rain, an intermission of sorts.
Is it all solid gold though? The answer is no, and there’s a sense that the record is running out of steam as it reaches its final stages. The less said about The Silence, the better. I really don’t like that track, even with its 80’s synth vibes. Eyes has flashes and the drums almost save it, but again, it’s fairly bland, and Cure Me passes by, uneventfully. It’s really disappointing and a sure sign that 14 track was a few too many.
Thankfully, the incredible Wave and the dynamic My Paradise rescue things. The former is incredibly touching, addictively potent, and would be the perfect closer, if My Paradise didn’t actually close the album. Am I complaining? A little, as even though I really do enjoy the anthemic metalcore stylings of the final track, the penultimate effort is so damn strong, I immediately want to go back to it.
Overall, a few misses, but the hits more than make up for them. It’s a grand celebration of this band and here’s hoping we’re raising a glass to them in another 20 years. If they continue to release records like this, I suspect we will be.
