Album Review: Pulpit Vomit – Hospital Lens (Rottweiler Records / Broken Curfew Records)
Released on July 27th via Rottweiler Records and Broken Curfew Records, ‘Hospital Lens’ is the long-awaited debut full length album from Pulpit Vomit.

Demented music that sits somewhere in between the chaos of grindcore and the ferocity of death metal, Pulpit Vomit make one hell of an impression on this debut album. Not necessarily a positive one as there are polarising aspects, least of all the eye-watering and ear-bleeding intensity of it all, but also not a negative one, as there’s a ton of talent behind this noise.
Noise is the right word too as the album begins in nonsensical fashion, Pulpit Vomit exploding out of the starting blocks with Razor Jaw and causing headaches with Ghost in the Bedroom Closet. Two short and obnoxious efforts that showcase the anarchy that embodies this band and what they are capable of. Yet, just when you think you’ve got the measure of the band, they then unleash The Filth.
An aptly titled track that sits on the death metal side of things, albeit with a continued outrageous approach to heaviness and bursts of hyperactivity. What makes it notably different is the varied tempo shifts and vocal style changes.
The out and out carnage is back, and then some, with No Place in Power though. The speed of the instruments will give most listener’s heart palpitations, and the vocal delivery will turn stomachs. Then, unexpectedly, it shifts and transforms into something slower and methodical. The power is still there, there’s no arguing with that, but it’s certainly a different kind of beast by the end.
It would be the album’s best if the enjoyable sound of Untitled Instrumental didn’t exist, but it does, and it’s a mighty effort with some actual discernible rhythm.
There’s no hanging about for Pulpit Vomit either who keep the intensity in place as the album’s latter half brings forth focused carnage via Skin Collector, Midnight Nun, and Spewing Vomit from the Pulpit. Each is as ugly as the other, but again, an impression is left. Do you think you can handle it?
