Album Review: Helloween – Giants & Monsters (Reigning Phoenix Music)
Helloween, the legendary German metal band with twenty-one gold and platinum awards and over ten million records sold, will release their highly anticipated new album ‘Giants & Monsters’ on August 29th, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music.

I’d tell you that this is a bombastic, high-energy, anthemic record, but who am I kidding!? You already know this! After all, it’s Helloween, a legendary name in the metal scene, but one that continues to be as relevant as ever releasing some of their best stuff in recent years. Which now includes Giants & Monsters, a heady and heavy banger of a record.
I’m not a big Helloween fan by any stretch, but I swear, every time I play an album of theirs, I’m left overjoyed by the heavy hair-raising, chest-pounding, singalong aspects of the band. Especially as these days, they’re all about delivering the best of Helloween (hence the several vocalists) and this album has a lot of bests. From the powerful and progressive opener, Giants on the Run, to the chorus-driven Saviour of the World (it is damn awesome), and the retro head-banger that is A Little is a Little Too Much, Helloween plaster smiles over the faces of all who enjoy kick ass sounding metal.
The riffs are out in full force for the vigorous We Can be Gods, a track that transforms into such an starry anthem once the chorus hits. Making it another track that I can’t help but love. I can’t deny the pull, and you won’t be able to either. I’m not going to go away and get Helloween tattooed on myself afterwards, but I’ll certainly think of them a bit more warmly. Especially as Into the Sun is a big, dramatic, cinematic, track that has incredibly unified vocals. It’s an epic, guitar solo included, simple as that.
Whereas This is Tokyo is the definition of a stadium anthem, and all because of its immense chorus. I love it, and so will you.
The instrumental energy is back with aplomb on Universe (Gravity for Hearts), a track that has some fun twists and turns over its 8+ minute runtime. Helloween at their most creative sounding, and a strong reminder that they are still capable of surprising. It’s probably the highlight of the latter part of the album, but there’s nothing to complain about with Hand of God and Under the Moonlight, with the latter. in particular, delivering smile inducing heavy and power metal pomp as only this band can do.
Capping off a riotous amount of fun is Majestic, another 8+ minute track, but this is a finale, and a finale as only Helloween can do. Expect to be head banging, throwing a fist in the air, air guitaring, and singing as loudly as possible. Helloween, eh? Still kicking so much ass.
