First Impressions: Marsupilami 2 – Salsa Palombia (Xbox Series X)

What an unexpected surprise! I don’t think anyone was expecting a sequel to Marsupilami: Hoobadventure, yet here we are, and hopefully, you’re as pleased as I am. Called Marsupilami 2 – Salsa Palombia, this sequel to the beloved platformer will be available on September 3rd, 2026, on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

I found Marsupilami: Hoobadventure quite late. It was initially released in November 2021 and I came across it, randomly, on Xbox one day in March 2025. I had no idea who or what Marsupilami was, but the look of it caught my attention and once I did decide to play it, I found a delightful 2.5D side-scrolling platformer in the vein of Donkey Country (the more modern ones) and Rayman games like Rayman: Origins and Legends.

I ended up liking it so much, I completed it fully, including its Hidden World expansion that had some challenging levels.

So, with the announcement of Marsupilami 2 – Salsa Palombia, there was never any doubt that I was going to be checking out the demo, but what did I find?

More of the same but with refinement. I played three levels and got to grips with the three characters’ unique skills and found it to be thoroughly enjoyable. I particularly loved the city-based level as that felt quite different and the chase sequence at the end was thrilling.

The game looks amazing, the controls are responsive, and the music is fun. There’s a constant feeling that game is encouraging you to always move forward, which is what made (for me) a game like Rayman Legends, an iconic experience. That playing Marsupilami 2 – Salsa Palombia reminded me of that says a lot about how well refined this sequel feels.

So far, it seems to be nailing the sequel rule of the three Bs. Bigger, bolder, better. I’m excited to play the full thing and based off this 30-odd minute experience, I think it’s already proven itself to be a must buy. Check out the gameplay video below.
