EP Review: Gurt – Survival of the Shittest (Self Released)

‘Survival of the Shittest’ is the brand-new EP from party doom band, Gurt. It is out on June 5th, 2026, and features two original tracks and a cover of the 1993 dance floor classic ‘No Limit’.

Let’s be honest, as cool as it is to have two new Gurt tracks, the big selling point of this release is THAT cover. Not just because the idea of Gurt doing No Limit is hilarious, but because they somehow talked Black Mist into guesting on it. It’s absurdly fun and sees the dance floor classic well and truly given the Gurt treatment. I suspect it’s going to be a live staple going forward, especially when they hit festivals like Bloodstock and Mangata.

What about Live Nation, Dead Scene and the title track? The former is raw intensity with potent riffs, thumping drums, and scathing vocals that hits with serious force. The latter is groovy as hell, with floor filling rhythms and plenty of head banging drive. Both delivering all the Gurty goodness we could ever want.

It’s a great EP, and the timing for its release is perfect, seeing as the dust is beginning to settle on Satan Etc. Come for the cover, stay for the originals though, that’s what I think.
