Horror Movie Review: Envelop (2026)

How do you know that a film left no impression on you at all? When it comes time to write a review and you have to go to IMDB to remind yourself of the plot. Written and directed by Lucas K. Labrecque, Envelop is a film you forget the moment it ends.

Not only is it mind-numbingly boring, but it’s an incoherent mess with frustrating editing, awful visuals, and seriously suspect acting.

The story, or at least the parts I could make sense of, surrounds a couple. A man and a woman who end up stranded in the middle of nowhere. It’s here that the film’s lack of quality becomes apparent as the darkness makes the film near unwatchable. Happily, for now at least, it does brighten up slightly as they stumble across an ominous looking building. Still, it’s shelter and a place to wait until morning, except it’s an abandoned hospital and I don’t know about you, but I’d rather take my chances outside in a storm then stay the night in a place like that.

To the surprise of literally no-one, except the leads, the building isn’t actually empty and the pair are going to have to fight to survive and find a way out.

I think. It’s really hard to tell as the film’s narrative unfolds in an unconventional way, choosing to jump around in time in schizophrenic fashion. Partially the fault of the writing, partially the fault of the editing, and partially the fault of the budget, it’s an absolute chore to watch. Not only that though, it’s a chore that will make you angry.

A film so bad it pisses you off?

There’s very little positive to talk about here. Characters are not developed, there is very little world building, the horror is implied and psychological, the acting is awkward, the film looks and sounds bad, and most of all, it’s incredibly forgettable.

At best, it is initially engaging and the attempt to make it a psychological experience is preferred to just another supernatural one, but this is me stretching, hard. Avoid this trash.
