Horror Short Review: 7B (2026)

Written by, directed by, edited by, and starring Nina van Oostrum, 7B is an incredible achievement for a solo creator. One who has a very bright future ahead of them based off this creepy short.

Nina plays a young woman watching a horror movie (The Shining) late one night in her accommodation block, when unnerving noises from the hallway get her attention. Of course, she goes to investigate and it’s from here that things get sinister.

It’s a simple supernatural story with a creative twist on the usual formula ending in dramatic, and disconcerting fashion. Alas, as much as I can praise what Nina has created here, it’s not flawless. For starters, it’s far too long and needed at least two minutes trimmed off it. The decision to have dialogue from The Shining playing over the first few minutes ends up being a bit distracting, and there are a couple of continuity errors here and there.

Regardless, I feel very positive towards this short and it all comes down to the fact that this person, Nina van Oostrum, did all this on their own. Incredible.
