EP Review: Infected Dead – Invicta (Self Released)
The five-piece technical death metal band that is Infected Dead will release their brand-new EP, ‘Invicta’, on May 1st, 2026.

Impressively blending death metal rawness with expressive and mature progressive detail, Infected Dead’s modern incarnation is delivering some of the band’s strongest tracks to date. Where instrumental complexities meet the appealing sound of guttural heaviness, and the resulting outburst is delightfully vibrant.
At times, jagged and disconcerting, at others, smooth and sensible, and everything in between, the four tracks on offer really can be summed up as a smorgasbord of progressive metal. Especially as the creativity of band allows every instrument to shine in different ways. After all, how often does progressive metal put all the emphasis on the guitar? Not Infected Dead though, who ensure the bass shines, the drums dictate many segments, and have the vocals spitting garishly throughout.
Each track offers something different, showcasing a band on vicious form and in a confident mood. Evident by the detailed wildness of Astral Divination, which perfectly captures how Infected Dead cleverly change the instrumental tone constantly. Whereas Organic Monolith has a more focused structure overall, but it does see the band experiment with more melodic tones.
Then there is In Spaces Beyond, a track that cleverly creates a level of discomfort by being so abnormal while having all the familiar makeup of extreme metal. It truly does take a talented band to make this combo work, and Infected Dead do it with ease.
Finally, and satisfyingly, the EP delivers Realm of Ichor, where a touch of groove, a touch of blackness, and plenty of intensity results in an unforgettable finish. It’s a great track, sitting comfortable alongside three other great tracks. Infected Dead have delivered a progressive death metal record that everyone should be taking note of.
