Do you enjoy the well-known Gothenburg melodeath sound? If so, I have good news, so do Serpent Icon and it has inspired their sound. A rich and potent showcase of melody and metal that has tons of riff-driven energy. They’re an awesome band, keeping it true to the style’s original sound, taking familiar elements, but adding their own fresh flair.
The result is five riot-inducing head bangers that will put the biggest of smiles on the faces of those who love the sound of melodeath. I know I do, so I had a blast with this record, only bemoaning the fact that it ended so quickly.
Serpent Icon are a really talented bunch, delivering the kind of heavy harmony that sets the senses aflame. Showcasing a strong balance of roaring and screaming riffs, crashing and crushing drums, and scathing guttural vocals across the EP’s length and breadth.
Yes, it’s light on originality, but I don’t care. This is a thrilling throwback record with some notable flashes of modern thinking. Serpent Icon had me from the moment Circus of Mankind came crashing out of the blocks and that grip didn’t loosen until the immense finale of Sirens and Sinners drifted away. It’s a banger release, simple as that.
