Today’s single slam features At the Gates and Roko Mouth. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
At the Gates – The Fever Mask
Swedish melodic death metal pioneers At the Gates have announced the release of their new album ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’, out on April 24th, 2026, via Century Media Records. The album’s first single, ‘The Fever Mask’ is out now and comes with a heartfelt in memory tribute video to Tomas Lindberg assembled by longtime collaborator Patric Ullaeus.
At The Gates checked in with the following comment about ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’:
We are proud to finally share some news about our eighth studio album, ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’. The album will be released on April 24, 2026 – more than two years after it was completed in the studio.
As you all know, Tomas Lindberg passed away last year due to complications from his cancer treatment. Over the past few years, we worked closely with Tomas, discussing and refining every detail to ensure nothing was left to chance.
In accordance with Tomas’ wishes; including the album title, sound mix, track order, artwork, and overall presentation ‘The Ghost of a Future Dead’ remains true to form. It combines the ferocious energy and hard-hitting powerful melodies that is the essence of At the Gates. This album is Tomas’ legacy.
What can I possibly say to do this track justice? Considering its dedication, the story behind it, the album, and what At the Gates have been through these past few years, casting judgement on a track like this feels wrong. Yet music is music, and here, At the Gates keep it simple, effectively so. A riotous showcase of their iconic melodeath sound and style. It’s emotional form is dictated by the tragic loss of Tompa, but that doesn’t mean fans can’t thoroughly enjoy it from a horn-throwing, head-banging, foot-stomping, and pit-starting perspective. In fact, I imagine that is exactly what he would have wanted.
Roko Mouth – Collective
Manchester punk newcomers Roko Mouth have dropped their new single and music video for Collective’. Lyrically, the track takes aim at the current political landscape, candidly expressing their feelings while promoting the vital importance of community amidst the escalating chaos and division.
On the new single, the band comments:
‘Collective’ is about political burnout and the pressure to constantly pick a side, where every opinion feels demanded and neutrality itself becomes suspect. It captures the feeling of being buried in noise, opinions, and second-hand outrage, where even neutrality feels like a risk. The song moves between aggression and satire, staging a warped argument between two people who still call each other friends.
‘Leave it up to the collective’ isn’t a solution; it’s exhaustion, avoidance, and a hope that someone else might still know what they’re doing.
A catchy number with a potent message, Roko Mouth have the belly fire that we all demand from punk, but an infectious nature that comes from modern pop and rock influences. You can move to this one, feeling the passion within, and enjoy flashes of intensity that mesh well with a foot tapping and finger snapping chorus.
