EP Review: Foreword – Exposition (Seek & Strike)

US metalcore quintet Foreword will release their new EP ‘Exposition’ on February 20th, 2026, via Seek and Strike.

There are some really interesting metalcore throwback elements to Foreword’s sound and several times throughout Exposition, my nostalgia button was tickled. Yet, what really makes it a remarkable listen is how that side of things is balanced by more modern and forward thinking. Showcasing a sharp intensity that comes blended with layers of synth, melody, and atmosphere. Putting it simply, it’s metalcore that has beastly qualities, but it’s also metalcore with purpose and focus.

Six tracks long, all that makes Foreword such a cool band is showcased with mighty aplomb on Shepard to the Black Sheep and Am I Dreaming (Wide-Awake). There are tons of relentless heaviness, soaring choruses, and dramatic melodies featured across both these bangers.

Or anthems. That’s probably a better description, especially as Hunger Sickness nails the singalong aspects, Read Between the Lines delivers the manic energy, and Intimate Torment combines potent heaviness with a strong chorus. You will have a blast listening to these tracks.

Though you won’t be left wanting by the creative sinisterness of the finale, Self-Immolate. The kind of finish that makes you gurn with pleasure.
