Horror Short Review: Nightfall (2025)

Written and directed by Ethan J. Simpson, and starring Ethan McCarthy, Christian Greer, James McGuinness, Seamus McCarthy, and Connor McCarry, Nightfall is a horror short film with ambition.

Unfortunately, an ambiguous story, abrupt ending, and lack of atmosphere makes it an unremarkable watch. Most will come away unimpressed.

The initial setup is fine. Two friends, traveling across Ireland, stop at a nice looking B&B in a small town but find out that it has a very dark and sinister history. Or at least it should, but the story telling trope of trying to keep everything so vague makes it an uninteresting watch. It’s a shame though because it has good performances and the location is suitably ‘haunting’.

Alas, a lack of tension and an unimpressive ending make it one to forget.
