Horror Short Review: Cracked (2024)

Cracked, by The Helmers, is an amusing, creative horror western short film that takes the simple nutcracker, gives it a scary face, and makes it a tool for predicting fortunes.

In the cold, snowy woods, a man is so hungry that he is shooting squirrels in their homes to get their nuts. He must be delirious though, because surely that isn’t a sign for a fortune teller that he sees, is it?

It is, and lo, there is the fortune teller himself. Sitting in front of three nuts and beckoning the hungry man forward. It’s time to have his fortune read, courtesy of an ugly looking nutcracker, but unfortunately, he won’t like what comes out of these nuts.

A comedy as much as a horror, Cracked is great. Showcasing creativity by the ‘nut’ load, having a dark sense of humour, and injecting in devilish horror right when it is needed. A must see.
