Album Review: House by the Cemetary – Disturbing the Cenotaph (Pulverised Records)

House By the Cemetary, the death metal ‘supergroup’, are back with their third full-length, ‘Disturbing the Cenotaph’. Out on the 12th of December 2025, via Pulverised Records.

Continuing to pay tribute to director Lucio Fulci (after all, the band’s moniker is a homage to the 1981 cult horror flick of the same name), House by the Cemetary arrive in bloody and brutal fashion on this third album, courtesy of the opening track, New York Ripper. It’s a relentless, groove-infused blast of death metal, setting a high bar for vitriolic and visceral heaviness.

A bar that is matched by the riffy Coffin Colony, the sickening potency of Island of the Dead, the crunching Depraved Unspeakable Acts, and the punchy Massive Cadaver Resurrection. Before you know it, half the album has gone by in a blur of razor-sharp guitars, bludgeoning drums, and flaying vocals. Which, if you know this band, is par for the course, but in the best way possible.

I just love how straight-forward House by the Cemetary music is, how focused they are, and how intensely they deliver their death metal and this album embodies that, albeit with some refinement. It’s not as raw as expected, even if a slower track like Undead Apocalypse has coarseness (and no small amount of horror infused within too).

I really do enjoy what House by the Cemetary’s offers and find myself still grinning with twisted glee as Phantom Intrusions slams with force and Burial Disturbance takes its time to dish out some serious punishment. It does seem as though more and more groove elements are seeping into their sound, but no matter what, the core death metal sound remains at the forefront.

Doesn’t it kick so much ass? Another raging, blood-fuelled banger from a supergroup that throw their all into it.
