EP Review: Eville – Brat Metal (Self Released)
Coining their own genre, brat metal, Brighton trio Eville fuse bratty, hyper-feminine lyricism with ferocious metal instrumentals – a clash of chaos, confidence, and catharsis that’s already cementing them as one of the UK’s most exciting new heavy acts. Now Eville are set to unleash their debut EP, ‘Brat Metal’, on October 17th – a bold statement of intent that fully embodies the brat metal ethos.

Hold on to your asses, Eville are here, but unless you’ve been living under a rock in recent times, you already know this. After all, they’ve been releasing unique single after unique single, and one such banger opens this EP. It’s BR4T MBL and it embodies what this band is all about, and then some.
The hype is real, and this manic dance-inducing head banger of a track is all the proof anyone needs. Did I mention it comes with a killer breakdown? It’s the kind of stuff that tells you Eville are going to be one of the big ones, and that’s before I mention just how much fun No Pictures Please is. Not just because it is energetic and punchy, but because the lyrics are so enjoyably potent. Venomous in a way, but from a very defiant place and with a lively chorus that everyone can sing along to.
Speaking off singalongs, although it might be more of a shout-a-long, Bikini Top is sharp and not just lyrically. The alt-metal vibes, snarling bursts of heaviness, and electric effects makes for a potent listen. Before Accidents Happen wraps up things with a bit more melody, more groove, and more metallised intensity. As eclectic as always, but that’s Eville’s ‘brat metal’ for you.
Love it, hate it, but you ain’t getting away from it.
