Single Slam: Soulfly and Ov Sulfur!

Today’s single slam features Soulfly and Ov Sulfur. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Soulfly – Nihilist

Extreme metal trailblazers Soulfly will deliver their tribally-fuelled thirteenth album ‘Chama’ on 24th October 2025 via Nuclear Blast Records. The latest single, ‘Nihilist’, is out now.

Max Cavalera comments:

My lyrics are inspired by LG of Entombed and Nihilist. He left this earth in 2021, and he was always a big influence on me. This is one of the heaviest songs on the record and I love the fact that we went to Bulgaria to make the video. Todd Jones is the special guest on the song, delivering the hardest line on the record. ‘I don’t believe in anything!’

Soul-fucking-fly. At their groovy and heavy best. Nihilist might be one the best modern tracks the band have put out as it doesn’t just go hard, it comes with varied guitar parts, some of the chunkiest drumming, and a very creative end. it’s downright doomy! One listen turns into ten, that’s how good it is.

Ov Sulfur – Evermore

On January 16th, blackened deathcore quintet Ov Sulfur will release their sophomore album, ‘Endless’, via Century Media Records. The new single, ‘Evermore’, is out now.

Vocalist Ricky Hoover comments:

When coming up with the theme for ‘Endless’, which is basically endless suffering and the various ways that could rear its ugly head, we questioned what it would be like to have endless life. This kind of allows it to be a bridge to our earlier anti-organised-religion material, as eternal life is a major tenet of many religions. In THEORY, living forever sounds incredible, but stop and think about what would come along with it: the death of your loved ones, the world around you gets worse (politically and physically), and no doubt eventual insanity from the eternally stacking heart break. ‘Evermore’ encapsulates these thoughts, building as the character reaches the point of insanity. Fortunately, it mirrors the build of the song, too. We knew it had to be our album launch single.

Getting more and more anthemic, while not losing the blackened savagery that makes them such a compelling modern deathcore band, Ov Sulfur has surveyed the scene and thought – time to dominate. Done by a combination of furious riffing, elaborate melodies, brutal breakdowns, and one huge sounding chorus. It’s an evolved Ov Sulfur, and that’s a very exciting prospect as far as the new album goes.
