EP Review: Gun Ghaol – Sgrios (Self Released)
Glasgow-based four-piece Gun Ghaol are the world’s only Gaelic metalcore band. They will release their new EP, ‘Sgrios’ on Friday 29th August. Mixed & mastered by Dundee-based producer Kieran Smith (To Kill Achilles, Bitterwood).

More than just a gimmick (Gaelic is one of Scotland’s official languages and is spoken by around 100,000 people north of the border), Gun Ghaol showcase just why they are such a hot prospect and why their brand of metalcore is turning heads.
Meaning destruction or annihilation, Sgrios is a tight, dynamic 13-minute, 4-track effort that begins in explosive fashion, sounding modern and fresh, but having a nu-twist that gives it more bounce, Suidh Sìos, A-Rithist is a potent start.
Although there’s plenty of power and intensity with the frenetic noise that Rabhadh delivers, one of the EPs heavier efforts. Whereas Tog Dealbh gives us clean vocals, more melody, and a more notably anthemic chorus. Then, and finally, Air an Oir delivers a bevy of blistering guitars, pounding drums, and scathing vocals (with just a touch of atmosphere too) to end things on a high.
The Gaelic thing might be what grabs attention initially, but it’s the quality of their metalcore sound that will keep people coming back.
