Weekly Review Roundup: Monday 28th July 2025 – Friday 1st August 2025
From powerful metalcore, to modern deathcore, to anthemic alternative rock and metal, groove-infused death, and more. We’ve reviewed some great releases this week, and here’s our weekly reminder of what has been covered. All these releases are out now!
Fit for a King – Lonely God (Solid State Records)

Always brilliant, always delivering something fresh, and always filled with intensity, Fit for a King are back with something very special indeed. An album that isn’t going to change the face of metalcore but shows (again) that this band are near untouchable within this genre. They embody the best parts of it, capable of experimentation, but always focused on delivering anthemic bangers that a listener can connect to on a more emotional level.

To The Grave – Still (Unique Leader Records)

Guess who is sounding mightily pissed off and ready to tear your face off if you don’t stop eating meat!? It’s To the Grave and while Still does have a few more experimental ideas, it’s undeniably them through and through. Aggressive and intense, delivering modern deathcore with bite, the flesh tearing kind.

ACCVSED – Dealers Of Doom (Arising Empire)

A very tight and focused release, ACCVSED have gone the ‘all killer, no filler’ route with this debut album. A smart choice as their brand of metalcore is at its strongest when it doesn’t overstay its welcome. They aim to make an impact and that is what they do.

Fox Lake – New Wave Heat (MNRK Heavy)

Impressively blurring the lines between metalcore, hardcore, hip-hop and nu-metal, Fox Lake are an addictively dynamic band with imagination. Delivering a record that pulses with life, pointedly aggressive and memorably anthemic throughout. New World Heat is heavy, savage and raw, but accessibly so.

ONI – Genesis Pt. II (Self Released)

Genesis Pt. I was impressive and really helped put ONI on the map, this follow-up is only going to solidify that and gain the project even more fans. All because it comes with impeccable alternative anthems that are filled with passion, power, emotion, and honesty. This is the ONI way.

Hammer – Trapped (Self Released)

Hammer realised, Hammer defined, Hammer as they stand today, and Hammer ready to mess you up. Featuring unexpected depth, impressive variety, and undeniable intensity, the Scottish metallers have aimed high with this release and hit the mark. Not just because of focus, but because it’s the perfect distillation of who and what they are right now. Capable of delivering unrelenting ferocity across all areas of the band, but confident enough to let every single aspect of the band shine. Then, throw in a thick lathering of cynicism, anger, horror, and more, connected to the ‘entrapment’ vein that runs through the entire thing, and you’re left with an album that slaps hard.
