Album Review: ACCVSED – Dealers Of Doom (Arising Empire)

‘Dealers of Doom’ is the debut album from the German metalcore newcomers ACCVSED. The album is set for release on 1st August via Arising Empire.

A very tight and focused release, ACCVSED have gone the ‘all killer, no filler’ route with this debut album. A smart choice as their brand of metalcore is at its strongest when it doesn’t overstay its welcome. They aim to make an impact and that is what they do.

Firstly, by hitting a hefty anthemic high with Day of the Locust and showing off a vibrant intensity that has experimental touches. Then, by getting wilder, faster, and more aggressive with the title track. Before offering up a more potent melody-infused chorus and beastly core vitriolic edge with the excellent Don’t Let Me Fall Apart. Chances are that most who enjoy good metalcore will already be sold on this album’s obvious qualities.

Still, there’s so much good to come and Total Eclipse of Self is in with a shout for being one of the album’s best. Not just because the instruments are crushing, but because it hits a thrilling melodic and cinematic high at the end. So very memorable. As is Killer of Minds’ stompy ‘in your face’ approach, where even random effects (and a coin-up sound) fit, and Avoider’s modern pop-infused soundscape proves to be quite infectious.

Another highlight? Make Sure It Hurts, and all because it is ACCVSED at their most emotional sounding while not lacking in passion or power. That’s the summation of this lovable metalcore banger, where melody is the focus, but ACCVSED deliver it in a way that cuts right through to the soul. The cherry on top? A soaring chorus.

Had your fill of excitable and anthemic metalcore yet? Of course you haven’t, and ACCVSED are more than willing to keep on delivering. Senescene, Never Enough, and Obsidian wrapping up a debut to remember with a collection of strong core efforts. ACCVSED delivering heavy and melodic sounds with mighty aplomb. Not just hitting hard with heavy groove, but hitting hard with speed, and hitting hard with an impressive melody-infused choruses.

Banging stuff all round.
