EP Review: Dark Bloom – In the Solace of What We Can’t Possess (Self Released)

Modern rock quartet, Dark Bloom will release their debut EP ‘In the Solace of What We Can’t Possess’ on Thursday 24th July 2025.

A band with ‘future rock stars’ written all over them thanks to their accessible anthemic ways, Dark Bloom are band you best get familiar with because they’re going to be huge, and this is just their debut EP. That’s how head turning a track like Plastic Melts… is, a creative opener that showcases the heavier edge that the band has. The bit of electronica is a choice, but it’s brief, so forgivable.

What is less forgivable is the first six seconds of the next track, Blur. Featuring a synthesised voice that is so grating. I’ve heard this track many times and I still don’t like that intro. However, it’s no reflection on the whole thing as what we have, overall, is a big alternative rock anthem. One with clever touches of harmony, an easy to enjoy chorus, experimentation with effects, and plenty of fiery expulsions of heaviness. It’s a really strong listen that showcases creativity, especially as it starts to sound more unhinged in the latter half.

The good stuff keeps on coming with Grace, a track with an infusion of post-hardcore passion, and In the Haze, a track with some pop-rock flair and a retro-alternative vibe. Both tracks are inherently likable and add more weight to Dark Bloom’s statement of intent. Especially as the EP wraps up with one of their most anthemic tracks of all, Secret Rituals. A potent blend of heartfelt melody and passionate rockiness. It’s an easy track to love on an EP that is so lovable overall. Many will agree, just you wait and see.
