Weekly Release Review Roundup: Monday 14th July 2025 – Friday 18th July 2025
From glorious post black metal, to evolved cybergrind, unrelenting black metal, intense progressive punk, potent rock, and more, it’s a big week for releases and we’ve got a list for you to check out.
Ba’al – The Fine Line Between Heaven and Here (Road To Masochist)

Allow your mind to open, let Ba’al in, and experience the highs and lows of the best post-black metal music in the world. Ba’al are the best, and somehow, they’re better than they’ve ever been before.

Blind Equation – A Funeral In Purgatory (Prosthetic Records)

Cybergrind evolved, A Funeral in Purgatory isn’t quite like anything Blind Equation has created before but retains so much of what makes the band special too. Already quite an indefinable band, this record is more explorative than ever as gothic metal and death/doom elements meet the wonderful weirdness of cybergrind.

Abigail Williams – A Void Within Existence (Agonia Records)

Thick with dark atmosphere, unrelentingly intense, and hellaciously harsh, Abigail Williams might not be reinventing the blackened wheel here, but once again, they define it and with that, showcase more of their own personal evolution. It’s spectacular, seven tracks of brutish brilliance that are covered in thick layers of dark atmosphere and morose melody. If you’ve loved what Abigail Williams have done to date, then you’ll love this too.

DARKO – Canvas (Lockjaw Records)

What a journey we’ve been on with DARKO and what a culmination this is. Three EPs, one grand and inventive listen experience that might tell many individual stories, but overall, tells the story of DARKO’s evolution. They’ve grown so much over the past few years and this EP embodies that perfectly.

Arcane Tongues – Third-Degree Burnout (Self Released)

A long time coming, Arcane Tongues’ hard work finally comes to fruition and the result is a dynamic and anthemic release. One rooted in the alternative rock world, but not exclusively so. Happily, over the ten tracks, the band showcases variety and with that, create something so much more compelling.

Spin Class – Dinner at Derek’s (Self Released)

This EP is a blast, lively and fun throughout, but with exceptional creative twists and turns to the rock formula. Sometimes a little punky, sometimes a little grungy, sometimes a little alternative, but always exciting and interesting.

Margarita Witch Cult – Strung Out In Hell (Heavy Psych Sounds)

Dark and doomy, groovy and weird, combining stoner/sludge with proto rock and metal, and then layering in some psychedelia for good measure. Margarita Witch Cult are a potent force in the UK scene, a force that comes with riffs. A ton of riffs.
