Single Slam: Amorphis, Fortitude Valley, Asymmetric Universe, and ten56.!
Today’s single slam features Amorphis, Fortitude Valley, Asymmetric Universe, and ten56. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Amorphis – Bones
Amorphis have released their new single ‘Bones,’ a powerful preview of their upcoming album “Borderland,” set for release on September 26, 2025, via Reigning Phoenix Music.
A big, bold banger from a band that continues to evolve release after release. Amorphis’ deliver potent heaviness and majestic anthemic melodies with this new single. It’s creatively interesting, flows smoothly, and has exceptional detail that makes it infinitely interesting.
Fortitude Valley – Oceans Apart
Northeast indie-rockers Fortitude Valley will release their new single ‘Oceans Apart’ on July 15th, 2025! It is the third single from their upcoming album ‘Part of the Problem, Baby’ out 1st August via Specialist Subject.
Says the band:
‘Oceans Apart’ is the name of an album by legendary Brisbane band The Go-Betweens. Another Aussie reference to tie things together. Lyrically, it’s about growing up, moving away across oceans and trying to be successful and happy off your own back.
Are you excited for the full album yet? Fortitude Valley wrap up the single side of things with another lovable anthem. One that has foot tapping, finger rapping, and head nodding rhythm. It also has some really clever touches that help make it stand out even more, such as the background keys and ending guitar solo. As infectious as always, it’s Fortitude Valley and this new album is going to be great. Upon release, check it out here.
Asymmetric Universe – Coquelicot
Founded by multi-instrumentalists Nicolò and Federico Vese, Italian progressive metal duo Asymmetric Universe has carved out a distinct space in the modern instrumental scene with a sound that seamlessly blends the aggressive intensity of metal with the rich harmonies and improvisational spirit of jazz fusion. Having emerged from a shared passion for composition and sonic exploration during their intense period of musical study nearly 10 years ago, the band now are set to release their debut album, ‘A Memory And What Came After’, via InsideOutMusic, on the 29th of August 2025.
To celebrate this announcement, the band have also launched a brand-new track titled ‘Coquelicot’, featuring a guest appearance from Haken’s Richard Henshall.
The band comments:
’Coquelicot’ is quite a simple and funky prog/fusion song, with quite a playful and happy feeling representing the peace of mind that we sometimes manage to achieve but that is disrupted by the things happening around and within us, represented by the heavy and complex breakdown and the dissonant solo of Richard Henshall.
A band pushing the boundaries of progressive music that offers up a refreshing take on complex sounds by being stylishly balanced between thicker, heavier parts, and dramatic, odd melody. The result is a track that fascinates throughout, putting a smile on the face, while also challenging the listener.
ten56. – I Know Where You Sleep
French bruisers ten56. have announced the arrival of their brand-new album, ‘IO’. The highly anticipated follow-up to their earth-shattering debut ‘Downer’ will drop on 5th September via Out of Line. To celebrate the news, ten56. have also shared a music video for their new single ‘I Know Where You Sleep’.
On the new single, vocalist Aaron Matts shares:
We chose to announce the album alongside ‘I Know Where You Sleep’ accompanied by it’s infomercial because it was important for us to give our audience a glimpse into what dark and twisted sounds and subject matter awaits on IO, whilst also not giving too much away as to where else we have pushed the bar in terms of sonic influence. IKWYS sets the tone; our music is as sadistic as it’s ever been, yet this album is full of surprises and the rest is to be discovered.
They’re back, and holy heck, what a beast of a track they’ve unleashed. If this is a sign of things to come, ten56. are going to lay waste to us all. What we have is less than two minutes of frenzied and savage chaos delivered with passion. It’s ten56. and this one f**king hurts.
