Album Review: Wytch Hazel – V: Lamentations (Bad Omen Records)
Hard rock band, Wytch Hazel, will release their new album, ‘V: Lamentations’, on July 4th, 2025, via Bad Omen Records.

A band with presence, a band with poise, and a band with power, Wytch Hazel has proven time and time again that their brand of hard rock and metal is mightily addictive, and this brand-new album doesn’t change that. Filled to the brim with addictive rhythms and catchy groove, there’s a real sense that Wytch Hazel want listeners to have a good time with them, while also experiencing layers of exciting eccentricities.
It’s an album packed with riffs that showcase a varied sound and a willingness to experiment. Which, when coupled with vocals that are silky smooth but contain power, gives the entire record a really rich flavour. One that sits somewhere between hard rock and heavy metal, with a touch of cinematic drama and experimentation thrown in for good measure.
The longer it goes on, the more addictive it is, especially as the mind becomes more attuned to the Wytch Hazel sound (even more so if it’s your first time). It’s constantly addictive, especially when experiencing tracks like The Citadel, with its classy melody and thumping ending beat. Or Elements, with its fabulous guitar solo, and even Elixir, even though it’s just a sort of folky/medieval intermission. It’s very cool.
Even when it’s not as addictive, it’s always interesting. It’s like falling down the rabbit hole, and dreamy, psych-infused efforts like Heavy Load nail this feeling.
Hypnotic right to the very end, time flies by and it’s over far sooner than expected. Yet there is no dissatisfaction to be found. Not when the finale of Consistent Healing Power comes with such groovy power and big sounding instrumentals. It’s a punchy finale, and alongside the others mentioned here, the one that resonated the most with me.
I fell in love with this album by the end, and I think you will to. Although considering their back catalogue, I wouldn’t be surprised if you weren’t heard over heel already. Wytch Hazel have delivered a stonkingly good record here.
