Game Review: Let Me Sleep (Xbox Series X)

From developer Brave Giant and publisher Silesia Games comes Let Me Sleep, a simple but addictive 2D point and click puzzle game. Bright, colourful, and quite zany, it’s quite good.

All you have to do, level after level, is help a poor fella get some sleep. Which might sound simple enough, except, there’s always something preventing him from doing so, and it’s the players job to solve the puzzle and help the man get some much-needed shuteye.

There are 67 levels in total, and it begins simply enough. Turn off the light. Move the cursor to the lamp, click on it, and the room will fill with the sound of snoring. Of course, this is just the introduction to the game and as it goes on, things start to get more complex. Where the game demands more than just point and click interactions, it demands you actually solve puzzles. Done via finding clues within the environment and piecing everything together to ensure this poor man is able to get some rest.

It’s quite addictive and comes with a surprising amount of variety. No two levels are the same and it becomes quite exciting to see what puzzle awaits next once you finish a level. It helps that there’s nothing too taxing here either. Sure, some of the puzzles might take a little longer to figure out, but everything the player needs is in front of them, it’s just a matter of putting it all together, before the generous time runs out.

To add more challenge, later, there are some clever aspects that changes up gameplay. Aspects like ghosts that, should you click on accidentally, will duplicate, and keep on doing so until you simply can’t see the screen anymore. Then there is a tentacle that empties your inventory if you don’t use an item quickly enough. Or there is the bat, which after flying around for a short while, will hit your timer knocking valuable seconds off it. Nothing too challenging, but clever aspects that change up the formula as the game goes on.

It looks and sounds good too. The colourful designs and creative imagery stands out, whereas the sound fits the zany, dreamlike feel of the game. There’s a retro feel to some of it, but it doesn’t come across dated.

I liked it and it’s easy to waste a good couple of hours working your way through it, and having fun while doing so.
