Alternative metal band, Spiritbox are back with a brand-new EP called ‘The Fear of Fear’. Set for release on November 3rd, 2023, via Rise Records/Pale Chord.
One of, if not the hottest bands in heavy music right now, Spiritbox’s rise has been nothing short of meteoric. In a very short amount of time – their debut album was released in 2021 – they have achieved a phenomenal number of things. Yet, they’re really only getting started and this new EP is a continuation of what makes them such a dominating musical force.
You don’t have to be a big fan of Spiritbox to recognise their quality. They have mass appeal and that is proven by their legion of hardcore fans. Fans who will defend the brilliance of this band as though their lives depend on it. It is that mass appeal that ensures this EP is going to be met with rapturous applause, especially as the recent single ‘Jaded’ appears on it, and that is an emphatic example of Spiritbox’s passion and energy.
The success of Jaded is one thing, but don’t let that fool you into thinking that the EP is found lacking elsewhere. Spiritbox kick things off in manic style with the furiously speedy and heavy sound of Cellar Door. This opener is up there as one of the most dangerous sounding tracks the group have released.
Elsewhere, there is the likes of Too Close / Too Late, Angel Eyes, and The Void, with each track showing the range and layers that Spiritbox have. Yet, happily they also show the band is constantly moving forward and coming up with creative ways to excite their listener base.
The EP is then brought to a strong close with the heartfelt and ethereal sound of Ultraviolet. The chorus alone is going to move a lot of people. Spiritbox ending the year as they begun it, in dominating fashion.
