EP Review: Recall The Remains – Dead Dreams (Self Released)

Formed in the West Midlands of the UK in 2017, Recall the Remains take from a cluster of influences spanning from Trivium, Thy Art is Murder, Whitechapel, and Bleed from Within to Rammstein. The UK riff merchants blend key elements of deathcore and metalcore to create both a new edge and a striking take on modern metal.

With a career that has already seen the Brit bruisers play a host of festivals such as Mammothfest, Derby Alt Fest and HRH Metal Festival, sharing the stage with Bleed from Within, Decapitated, and Rhapsody of Fire, as well as undertaking countless headline shows and tours, it’s no surprise that the band’s following has surged and is gathering rapid pace. The successful release of three consecutive singles has also aided Recall the Remains to widen their reach.

It’s now time for the band to step up even further. Blessed with a killer new EP, Dead Dreams which will be released on March 5th, 2021.

One to watch, if you’ve not been doing that already, Recall the Remains are making the play for bigger and more prominent stages. On the back of this stellar new release, you can’t knock the ambition. Nor ignore the very real possibility that they might just reach them.

Bound to have mass appeal, the heavy-duty opener Darker Path showcase the band’s strong metalcore roots while occasionally leaning into the deathcore side of things too. It’s got some seriously chunky riffs going on.

Deadlines has the unit up the tempo for a more frantic offering with the filthiest of breakdowns in tow. Another banger but it’s the absolute death-infused beast that is Night Inversion that will do the job for those craving an absolute ass-whipping. Even when the cleaner vocals come up, it still harbours that meatier edge. A proper crowd-pleaser for those who want to head-bang into oblivion.

Though it’s the excellent cleaner chorus of The Night Will Bleed that really stands out there. Just Recall the Remains showing off their versatility. Before this killer EP wraps up with Our Hell and modern sounding slab of energetic metal. Where the riffs are bit more eclectic and the rhythm grooves in unexpected ways.

On this showing alone, Recall the Remains should probably be superstars already.
