EP Review: Arguer – Distant (Real Ghost Records)

Old friends Shane and Adam started Arguer as a welcome escape amid the chaos of 2020. What began as a weekly jam in the practice room has quickly developed into a set of songs that blend a shared love for big riffs, bigger choruses and satisfying vocal hooks.

Explains Shane (lead vocals, guitars):

We’ve wanted to work together on a project for a long time. When we finally got the chance to write some songs together, we knew from the first session we were on to something, and the recordings have really brought those ideas to life.

Catching the attention of independent label Real Ghost Records, the pair are now ready to release their debut EP, Distant. Out on July 9th, 2021.

Making a strong impression on this debut; Arguer’s relaxed and comforting vocal style with catchy rhythms, big hooks and smile-inducing choruses is a crowd pleaser. Four memorable tracks that have plenty of emotion, mood-swings and thought-provoking messages in them.

Not heavy enough to be heavy metal but not soft enough to be poppy, Arguer skirt the line quite nicely. Think melancholic groove, flashes of unexpected guitar technicality and pop-punk catchiness. It’s fair to say that Arguer have their own sound and Distant is a great showcase of this. You’ll get energy, you’ll get introspective melody, you’ll get danceable beats and hair-raising, singalong choruses.

The moment it ends, you’ll be hitting play again. Such is the digestible nature of the record. It’s an EP that puts a big smile on the face and hopefully they can build on this.
