Demo Review: Eternal Fortress – Enchanted Woods of Sorrow (Pacific Threnodies)

Out on October 5th 2018 via Pacific Threnodies, Enchanted Woods of Sorrow is a three track demo from Eternal Fortress.

A mix of dungeon synth, guitar melodies, horrifying vocals and wood instruments, this release sits squarely in the magical/fantasy realm of black metal. The sole creation of Eldritch Fog (Heinous, Night Curse), this demo is a highly atmospheric and imaginative listen.

Kicking off with Sorrowful Journey, the synth is strong in this one alongside some soft flute playing. It signals the beginning of a journey into dark realms filled with fantastical sights and sounds.

Which is exactly what Realm of Rain is. After such anticipation, this is where things really come to life on the black metal side of things. Gorgeous natural melody, the simple tip-tap of drums, the winding guitar riffs and the throat-gargling of the vocals create a well-executed song.

Ultimately it is this track that is the showcase of the album as Tol Galen is a short offering all about chiming melodies. Then it’s over and you can’t help but want more. Much more.
